The word “disclose” translates the German word entdecken, which Heidegger uses extensively. Ent-decken might also be translated as “un-cover” or, indeed, as “dis-cover.” In all these English words there is a prefix – “un-” or “dis-” – that negates the idea   expressed in the rest of the word. This is the idea of something being covered or closed off and thus by implication hidden. This is true of the German ent-decken as well. All these verbs, therefore, describe human beings – Dasein   – as negating the covered-upness of entities (Seiendes  ) generally and thus bringing them into a zone of openness that Heidegger also calls Unverborgenheit   or unhiddenness. A distinctive feature of human beings is that they can reciprocally disclose one another whereas their dis-closing of things is not   and cannot be so reciprocated. The relation of human beings to animals is in some sense reciprocal but presumably also impoverished by comparison to that of human beings to one another. [OLAFSON, Frederick A.. Por su parte, el encubrimiento mismo, entendido como ocultamiento, como recubrimiento o como disimulo, tiene una doble posibilidad. Hay encubrimientos fortuitos y encubrimientos necesarios; estos últimos son los que se fundan en el modo como está descubierto lo descubierto [Bestandart des Entdeckten [1]. Los conceptos y proposiciones fenomenológicos originariamente extraídos, están expuestos, por el hecho mismo de comunicarse en forma de enunciado, a la posibilidad de desvirtuarse. Se propagan en una comprensión vacía, pierden el arraigo en su propio fundamento, y se convierten en una tesis que flota en el vacío. La posibilidad de anquilosamiento y de que se vuelva inasible lo que originariamente estaba al «alcance de la mano» acompaña al trabajo concreto de la fenomenología misma. UNCOVER (entdecken). In its understanding, being-there [Dasein] uncovers entities [Seiende] within the world [innerweltlich  ], which have readiness-to-hand [Zuhandenheit] as their way of being. This is only possible because being-there is in its being-in-the-world familiar with meaningfulness. The discovery of entities presupposes the disclosedness of the world. Only when the being of an entity within the world has been discovered can it be uncovered in its pure presence-at-hand [Vorhandenheit].
