Nous connaissons fort bien la brutalité avec laquelle s’exprime la volonté de puissance, mais le « secret de la douleur [Schmerz] », quant à lui, reste en retrait. Plus radicalement, c’est la « région essentielle d’où douleur, mort et amour déploient leur appartenance » qui reste voilée – or celle-ci en son abritement n’est rien d’autre que l’« abîme de l’être ».
