Such indifference (Gleichgültigkeit), in which everything is experienced as being ultimately of equal (gleich) worth (Gültigkeit), in which “everything is the same (gleich),” in which “nothing is worthwhile,” is also the essential trait of what Nietzsche diagnoses as nihilism: with the (apparent) abolition of the suprasensuous world, the world of the sensuous appears without intrinsic value or worth.
