Em primeiro lugar, considero a origem da noção de temporalidade autêntica (o "momento-da-visão") na ideia do Novo Testamento do "tempo do cumprimento" (kairos). (...) À medida que o pensamento de Heidegger amadureceu, interpretou a temporalidade autêntica menos na perspectiva do indivíduo resoluto e mais como um acontecimento histórico que ocorre através do poeta, do pensador ou do artista destinado a receber uma nova revelação do Ser. O eu autêntico é o recipiente a ser esvaziado (kenosis) para que o Ser possa manifestar-se de uma forma que mude a história. Enquanto o leitor pode identificar-se, até certo ponto, com o eu autêntico descrito em Ser e Tempo, torna-se mais difícil fazê-lo com a figura heroica descrita em algumas das obras posteriores de Heidegger. In Chapter Five I show how a significant change in Heidegger’s thinking resulted in part from his deepening understanding of the relation between the authentic individual and his people. First, I consider the origin of the notion of authentic temporality (the “moment-of-vision”) in the New Testament idea of the “time of fulfillment” (kairos). After a discussion of the moment-of-vision as depicted by Tillich, Jaspers, Kierkegaard, and Schelling, I turn to Heidegger’s 1937 lectures in which he suggests that the moment-of-vision resembles Nietzsche’s “eternal return of the same.” As Heidegger’s thinking ripened, he interpreted authentic temporality less from the perspective of the resolute individual and more as an historical event happening through the poet, thinker, or artist destined to receive a new revelation of Being. The authentic self is the vessel to be emptied so that Being can manifest itself in a way which changes history. While the reader could identify himself to some extent with the authentic self described in Being and Time, it becomes more difficult to do so with the heroic figure described in some of Heidegger’s later works. The hero must struggle to remain open for the revelation which will happen through him; he cannot, however, will it to happen. Authenticity happens to him; he does Not choose it. The revelation granted to him, moreover, is not for him, or even for humanity, but is an episode in the “history of Being.”
