L’authenticité y est décrite comme résolution anticipatrice. L’existence devient libre pour sa propre finitude par l’anticipation résolue de sa mort. «L’anticipation s’avère être la possibilité de comprendre l’extrême potentiel d’être qui nous est le plus propre, c’est-à-dire la possibilité d’existence authentique.» Mais si le potentiel d’être qui nous est le plus propre se révèle par l’anticipation de notre mort — et Heidegger a toujours maintenu que c’est un changement d’attitude à l’égard de notre mort qui produirait une nouvelle expérience de la présence —, alors c’est ma négativité totale qui totalisera mon existence. Curieux potentiel d’être qui me projette vers ma négation. Autant dire que ce qui m’est «le plus originaire» me projette vers nulle part, vers rien. En effet, que s’approprie mon existence en devenant authentique? Ma possibilité de ne pas être du tout. Rien, donc, n’est approprié. Puisqu’il retient comme caractère décisif de l’authenticité le «potentiel» et le «possible», Heidegger, de toute évidence, élimine la structure téléologique de l’existence authentique. Au-dessus d’[[termos:a:arche-hlex:start|arche]] et [[termos:t:telos-hlex:start|telos]] il y a l’an-archie et l’a-téléocratie, parce (27) que, «au-dessus de la réalité, il y a la possibilité». Comme horizon d’anticipation, la mort, il est vrai, est assurément une concrétisation de la structure téléologique qui caractérise le «souci» en général. Mais parler de la mort comme de sa possibilité la plus propre, possibilité que, toujours de nouveau, il s’agit de faire sienne, c’est déjà introduire un élément de non-finalité dans l’authenticité, absent des descriptions du souci. La temporalité authentique — non pas linéaire, mais extatique — abolit les représentations d’un terminus a quo et d’un terminus ad quem dans la compréhension de l’existence. Le potentiel extatique est donc anticipateur de la mort tout en étant dépourvu de relations, [[termos:u:unbezuglich:start|unbezüglich]]. La mort est «la possibilité la plus propre, dépourvue de relations, indépassable». Ainsi, Heidegger pense l’authentique comme plénitude extatique du potentiel, ontologiquement exempt de tout rapport aux étants, y compris la mort figurée comme un étant. Les étants portent tous un «pourquoi» : subsistants, ils servent à la connaissance, et disponibles, ils servent à l’usage. Connaître et user sont les deux manières dont le réel annonce sa structure téléologique. «Mais au-dessus de la réalité, il y a la possibilité. » Pourquoi au-dessus ? Parce que le possible n’est jamais ni subsistant ni disponible. La possibilité, et partant le potentiel, ne tombent ainsi jamais dans les coordonnées d’arché et de telos, c’est-à-dire, en fin de compte, dans les coordonnées de la causalité. Si la compréhension du temps par laquelle Heidegger renverse toute la métaphysique depuis Aristote, est si extraordinairement innovatrice, c’est parce qu’elle sape ces représentations. Le temps extatique s’oppose au temps linéaire — «nombre du devenir» aristotélicien ou «extension de l’âme» augustinienne — comme le possible s’oppose à l’acte et à la puissance, la pensée à la connaissance, et le principe d’anarchie au principe de causalité.

Authenticity is described there (SZ) as anticipatory resolution. Existence is freed for its own finitude by the resolute anticipation of its death. “Anticipation turns out to be the possibility of understanding one’s ownmost and uttermost potentiality-for-being, that is to say, the possibility of authentic existence.” If our ownmost potentiality-for-being reveals itself in the anticipation of our death—and Heidegger [[termos:w:was:start|Was]] always to maintain that it is a change in attitude toward our death that would produce a new [[termos:e:experience:start|experience]] of presencing—then it is my total negativity that will totalize my existence. Is this [[termos:n:not:start|Not]] an odd “potential” if it projects me toward my negation? It is as if what is “most originarily” myself projects me nowhere, toward nothing. Indeed, what is it that my existence makes its own in becoming authentic? My possibility of not being at all. Nothing, then, is made my own. Since he retains ‘potential’ and the ‘possible’ as the decisive marks of authenticity, it is clear that the concept of authentic existence contains no teleological structure. Higher than arche and telos [[termos:s:stand:start|Stand]] an-archy and a-teleocracy since “higher than actuality stands possibility.” It is true that, as the horizon of anticipation, death is certainly a concretization of the teleological structure that characterizes ‘care’ in general. But to speak of death as one’s ownmost possibility, a possibility that has to be appropriated ever anew, is already to introduce an element of non-finality into authenticity that is absent from the descriptions of care. Authentic temporality—not linear, but ecstatic—abolishes the representations of a ‘terminus a quo’ and a ‘terminus ad quem’ in the understanding of existence. The ecstatic potential is thus anticipatory of death while devoid of relations, unbezüglich. Death is “one’s ownmost possibility, non-relational and unsurpassable.” In this way, Heidegger thinks the authentic as ecstatic fullness of one’s potential, ontologically exempt from all relations to entities, including the relation to death represented as an entity. All entities convey a ‘why’: those that are subsistent or given as objects yield knowledge, and those that are available or given for handling are there for use. Knowing and using constitute the two ways the real or the actual imparts its teleological structure. “But higher than actuality stands possibility.” Why higher? Because the possible is never either subsistent or available. Possibility, and consequently potential, thus never fall within the coordinates of arche and telos, that is to say, within the coordinates of causality. The understanding of time through which Heidegger reverses all metaphysics since Aristotle is so innovative because it undermines these representations. Ecstatic time is opposed to linear time—the Aristotelian “number of becoming” as well as the Augustinian “extendedness of the soul”—as the possible is opposed to the unity of act and potency, as thinking is to knowing, and as the principle of anarchy is to the principle of causality. Del mismo modo habría que decir que lo que me es «más originario» me proyecta hacia ninguna parte, hacia nada. ¿De qué se apropia mi existencia, en efecto, al hacerse auténtica? (33) De mi posibilidad de no ser en absoluto. No se apropia de nada. Puesto que retiene como carácter decisivo de la autenticidad el «potencial» y lo «posible», Heidegger, con toda evidencia, elimina la estructura teleológica de la existencia auténtica. Por encima de arché y telos hay la anarquía y la a-teleocracia porque «más alto que la realidad está la posibilidad» . Como horizonte de anticipación, la muerte, es verdad, es seguramente una concreción de la estructura teleológica que caracteriza el «cuidado» en general. Pero hablar de la muerte como de su posibilidad más propia, posibilidad que siempre de nuevo se trata de hacer suya, es ya introducir un elemento de no-finalidad en la autenticidad, ausente de las descripciones del cuidado. La temporalidad auténtica —no lineal sino extática— elimina las representaciones de un terminus a quo y de un terminus ad quem en la comprensión de la existencia. El potencial extático es, pues, anticipador de la muerte y ello estando desprovisto de relaciones, unbezüglich. La muerte es «la posibilidad más propia, desprovista de relaciones, insuperable» (SZ 250). De este modo, Heidegger piensa lo auténtico como plenitud extática del potencial, ontológicamente exento de toda relación con los entes, incluyendo la muerte figurada como un ente.

Los entes portan todos un «porqué»: si son subsistentes, sirven al conocimiento y si son disponibles sirven al uso. Conocer y utilizar son las dos maneras en que lo real anuncia su estructura teleológica. «Pero más alto que la realidad está la posibilidad». ¿Por qué por encima? Porque lo posible no es nunca subsistente ni disponible. La posibilidad y lo potencial no caen jamás en las coordenadas de arché y de telos, es decir, a fin de cuentas, en las coordenadas de la causalidad. Si la comprensión del tiempo, con la cual Heidegger da un vuelco a la metafísica desde [[termos:a:aristoteles-2:start|Aristóteles]], es tan extraordinariamente innovadora es porque mina sus representaciones. El tiempo extático se opone al tiempo lineal —«número del devenir» aristotélico o «extensión del alma» agustiniana— como lo posible se opone al acto y a la potencia, el pensamiento al conocimiento y el principio de anarquía al principio de causalidad.
