Ao ter escolhido, a existência de alguém sempre foi abandonada a ter (futuramente) que ser um ter-sido. Só se pode vir a ser e ter que ser saindo de um já ter sido abandonado para um mundo, para um já-ser-num-mundo finito. Tal existência finita em um mundo é sempre um ser com outros que "se encontraram eles memos" no mesmo mundo ao mesmo tempo.  "Se Dasein, como um fatídico estar-no-mundo, existe essencialmente no ser/estar com outros, então sua ocorrência é um acontecimento com outros e é determinado como destino (Geschick). Assim, designamos a ocorrência de uma comunidade, de um povo” (SZ, 384). No entanto, tal existência no mesmo mundo ao mesmo tempo é totalmente frágil. Como o Dasein existe apenas fora de um mundo que sempre já é um mundo de outros, não há, estritamente falando, nenhum tempo que seja simplesmente do Dasein: meu tempo já é sempre um tempo de outros. O tempo do mundo é sempre o tempo do Augenblick em que um Dasein particular e finito "mantém seu mundo em vista", se mantém aberto a um tempo e a uma finitude que não é primariamente sua, mas de uma comunidade e um mundo histórico. Ao se abrir para um mundo, o Dasein sempre se fechou de antemão a qualquer possibilidade de um tempo que seria exclusivamente seu. Seu próprio tempo é um tempo de estar com outros em um mundo que nunca pode ser exclusivamente seu. Heidegger escreve, portanto, que o Dasein existe "à maneira do Augenblick para 'seu tempo'" (SZ, 385), indicando assim que "seu tempo" é sempre o tempo de um ser mundano com outros. O tempo do Dasein sempre já terá sido um destino. Mas é importante ver que tal destino não exclui de forma alguma a liberdade. Muito pelo contrário: as análises de Heidegger implicam que o destino, neste sentido, primeiro permite a liberdade, como a liberdade de ser/estar-em-um-mundo. Para existir futuramente, isto é, livremente, é preciso sempre já ter existido de maneira finita e ter sido abandonado a um mundo. Pois não há liberdade concebível que não seja de fato uma resposta a um mundo que já foi dado. É apenas para a subjetividade moderna, incapaz de conceber a liberdade como outra coisa senão a autodeterminação (autonomia) e, portanto, como uma propriedade da vontade, que a ênfase de Heidegger em "fado" e "destino" parece intolerável (se não também ilegível). An authentic understanding of this dependency on finitude and on what is finitely given in a situation [[termos:w:was:start|Was]] first explicitly developed by Heidegger in his analyses of historicality in Being and Time. As we have indicated in chapters 3 and 4, the analytic of Dasein clarifies the way in which all theoretical comportment is itself rooted in the being of Dasein as originary [[termos:p:praxis-hlex:start|praxis]], and that such praxis is itself seen in a genuine and authentic manner only in a “momentary” existing, an existing in and as the Augenblick. All theōria is intrinsically exposed to this finitude. In authentically taking up an explicit relation to its own mortality as that which always exceeds and surpasses it, Dasein comes to acknowledge its own finitude; it is thrust into the finitude of its own existence and given its ultimate goal, namely, its having to be (Zu-sein) as a finite being-in-the-world. It acknowledges the happening of its own being as fate (Schicksal), that is, as a finite existing that is primarily dependent upon the givenness of a factical and historical world. It “understands itself ...in the supreme power (Übermacht) of its own finite freedom, so as in such freedom, which only ever ’is’ in having made a choice, to assume the powerlessness (Ohnmacht) of being abandoned to itself and to become perspicuous (hellsichtig) for the contingencies of the situation disclosed” (SZ, 384). The context makes it clear that this “supreme power” of its freedom does [[termos:n:not:start|Not]] belong to Dasein, as though Dasein were a subject that had freedom as a property at its disposal, but that such freedom occurs only in and through already having chosen, that is, only in and through one’s own existence already having been decided in certain ways. In having chosen, one’s existence has always already been abandoned to having (futurally) to be a having-been. One can come to be and have to be only from out of an already having been abandoned to a world, to a finite already-being-in-a-world. Such finite existing in a world is always already a [[termos:b:being-with-others-btmr:start|Being with Others]] who have “found themselves” in the same world at the same time. “If Dasein, as a fateful being-in-the-world, essentially exists in being with others, then its occurrence is an occurring with others and is determined as destiny (Geschick). We thereby designate the occurrence of a community, of a people” (SZ, 384). Yet such existing in the same world at the same time is altogether fragile. Because Dasein exists only from out of a world that is always already a world of others, there is, strictly speaking, no time that is simply Dasein’s own: my time is always already a time of others. The time of the world is always the time of the Augenblick in which a particular, finite Dasein “holds its world in view,” holds itself open to a time and to a finitude that is not primarily its own, but that of a community and a historical world. In opening itself to a world, Dasein has always already closed itself off in advance from any possibility of a time that would be (143) exclusively its own. Its ownmost time is a time of being with others in a world that can never be exclusively its own. Heidegger thus writes that Dasein exists “in the manner of the Augenblick for ’its time’” (SZ, 385), thereby indicating that “its time” is always already the time of a worldly being with others. Dasein’s time will always already have been a destiny. But it is important to see that such destiny does not at all preclude freedom. Quite to the contrary: Heidegger’s analyses imply that destiny in this sense first enables freedom, as the freedom of being-in-a-world. To exist futurally, that is, freely, one must always already have been in a finite manner, and have been abandoned to a world. For there is no conceivable freedom that would not actually be a responding to a world that has already been given. It is only for modern subjectivity, unable to conceive freedom as anything other than self-determination (autonomy), and thus as a property of the will, that Heidegger’s emphasis on “fate” and “destiny” seems intolerable (if not also unreadable). For modern subjectivity can conceive of destiny only as a blind fate, as the opposite of self-determination.
