ever the while

The adverb je means ‘ever’. It combined with mehr, ‘more’, to form immer, ‘always, ever more’. Once, je applied to the past, immer to the future. This is no longer so. They differ as ‘Has he ever (je) lived in London?’ differs from ‘Has he always lived in London?’ In SZ, je schon, ‘ever already’, means much the same as immer schon, ‘always already’, formed by analogy with the common expression immer noch, ‘still’, as in ‘He still lives in London’. Je also has distributive force, as in ‘He gave them each (je) an apple’, ‘To each according to (je nach) his needs!’, ‘To each according as (je nachdem) he works!’ Thus: ‘We ourselves are each of us (wir je selbst) the entity to be analyzed (viz. DASEIN). The being of this entity is in each case mine (je meines)’ (SZ, 41). Heidegger then coins Jemeinigkeit, ‘in each case mineness’: ‘In speaking to Dasein one must, in accordance with this entity’s character of Jemeiniglieit, always add the personal pronoun: “I am”, “you are”’ (SZ, 42). He exploits the facility of je for entering compounds: je also contrib-V utes to irgend, ‘some, any’; jede(r), ‘each, everyjegliche(r), ‘any, each’; and jemand, ‘someone’. It also appears in expressions of the type: ‘the (je) bigger, the (je) better’. (Inwood)

Em SZ, je schon, "alguma vez já", significa o mesmo que immer schon, "sempre já", tendo se formado por analogia com a expressão usual immer noch, "ainda", como em "Ele ainda mora em Londres". Je também tem força distributiva, como em "Ele deu a cada (je) um uma maçã", "A cada um segundo (je nach) suas necessidades!", "A cada um de acordo com (je nachdem) o que ele trabalha!". Assim: "Nós mesmos somos cada qual (wir je selbst) a entidade a ser analisada (cf. Dasein). O ser desta entidade é em cada caso sempre meu (je meines)" (SZ, 41). Heidegger então forja Jemeinigkeit, "o sempre meu": "Na interpretação do Dasein deve-se dizer também o pronome pessoal: ‘eu sou’, ‘você é’" (SZ, 42), devido a seu caráter de ser sempre minha (Jemeinigkeit). Heidegger explora a facilidade do je de formar nomes compostos: je também contribui para irgend, "algum, qualquer" jede(r), "cada, todo"; jegliche(r), "qualquer, cada"; e jemand, "alguém". Ele também aparece em expressões do tipo: "quanto (je) maior, (je) melhor". (DH)
