2. ‘Vertretbarkeit’. The verb ‘vertreten’ means ‘to represent’ in the sense of ‘deputizing’ for someone. It should be noted that the verb ‘vorstellen’ is also sometimes translated as ‘to represent’, but in the quite different sense of ‘affording a “representation” or “idea” of something’. (BTME:283)
