Showing is allowing to be seen or grasped. The notion of pointing or showing (zeigen) is central to Heidegger’s conception of phenomenology both before and after Being and Time. Heidegger introduces his conception of phenomenon as something that shows itself (das Sichzeigende, SZ 28; GAi4:99). Showing and showing itself are constitutive of Dasein itself. The demonstrative expression da meaning here (its primary meaning), but also there, is built into Heidegger’s notion of Dasein.
