Foi rejeitada, por inadequada, a interpretação do ainda-não e, assim também, a do extremo ainda-não próprio-do-Dasein, no sentido de um fal-tante, porque ela contém o desvio ontológico do Dasein para um subsistente em si. O ser-no-final significa existenciariamente: ser para o final. O extremo ainda-não tem o caráter de algo para-que o Dasein se comporta. O final é iminente para o Dasein. A morte não é um subsistente que ainda não se efetivou, não é um último faltante reduzido a um mínimo, mas, ao contrário é um iminente.

Entretanto, para o Dasein como ser-no-mundo muito há que lhe pode ser iminente. O caráter do iminente não distingue por si (689) a morte. Ao contrário: essa interpretação ainda poderia sugerir a suposição de que a morte devesse ser entendida no sentido de um acontecimento iminente vindo-de-encontro no interior do mundo ambiente. Iminente pode ser, por exemplo, uma trovoada, a reforma da casa, a chegada de um amigo, entes que são, portanto, subsistentes, utilizáveis ou são-“aí”-com. A morte iminente não tem um ser dessa espécie.

Mas iminente pode ser também para o Dasein, por exemplo, uma viagem, uma explicação com outro, uma renúncia a algo que o Dasein ele mesmo pode ser: possibilidades-de-ser que lhe são próprias por se fundarem em seu ser-com com outros.

A morte é uma possibilidade-de-ser que o Dasein tem de assumir cada vez ele mesmo. Com a morte o Dasein é iminente ele mesmo para ele mesmo em seu poder-ser mais-próprio. Nessa possibilidade está em jogo para o Dasein pura e simplesmente o seu ser-no-mundo. Sua morte é a possibilidade do já-não-poder-ser-“aí”. Quando o Dasein, como essa possibilidade de si mesmo é iminente, é completamente remetido a seu poder ser mais-próprio. Assim, iminente para si, nele se desfazem todas as relações com outro Dasein. Essa irremetente possibilidade mais-própria é ao mesmo tempo a possibilidade extrema. Como poder-ser o Dasein não pode superar a possibilidade da morte. A morte é a possibilidade da pura e simples impossibilidade-de-ser-“aí”. Assim, a morte se desvenda como a possibilidade mais-própria, irremetente e insuperável. Como tal, a morte é um assinalado iminente, cuja possibilidade existenciária tem seu fundamento em que o Dasein é ele mesmo essencialmente aberto para ele mesmo e o é no modo do ser-adiantado-em-relação-a-si. Esse momento estrutural da preocupação tem, no ser para a morte, a sua concretização mais-originária. O ser para o final torna-se fenomenicamente mais claro como ser para a caracterizada possibilidade assinalada do Dasein. (p. 689, 691)

La interpretación del no-todavía como resto pendiente, y por Ende también la del extremo no-todavía, del fin del Dasein, ha sido rechazada como inadecuada. En efecto, ella implicaba la tergiversación ontológica del Dasein que lo convierte en un ente que está-ahí. Haber-llegado-a-fin quiere decir existencialmente estar vuelto hacia el fin. El extremo no-todavía tiene el carácter de algo respecto a lo cual el Dasein se comporta. El fin amenaza al Dasein. La muerte no es algo que aún no esté-ahí, no es el último resto pendiente reducido a un mínimo, sino más bien una inminencia (Bevorstand).

Para el Dasein, en cuanto estar-en-el-mundo, pueden, sin embargo, ser inminentes muchas cosas. El carácter de inminencia no caracteriza de suyo a la muerte. Al contrario: esta interpretación podría, además, favorecer la idea de que la muerte debiera ser comprendida en el sentido de un acontecimiento intramundanamente próximo a comparecer. Inminente puede ser, por ejemplo, una tormenta, la transformación de la casa, la llegada de un amigo, es decir, entes que están-ahí o que están a la mano o coexisten. La inminencia de la muerte no tiene un ser de esta especie.

Pero al Dasein le puede ser también inminente, por ejemplo un viaje, una discusión con otros, una renuncia a lo que el Dasein mismo puede ser: posibilidades propias de ser que se fundan en el coestar con otros.

La muerte es una posibilidad de ser de la que el Dasein mismo tiene que hacerse cargo cada vez. En la muerte, el Dasein mismo, en su poder-ser más propio, es (270) inminente para sí. En esta posibilidad al Dasein le va radicalmente su estar-en-el-mundo. Su muerte es la posibilidad del no-poder-existir-más. Cuando el Dasein es inminente para §í como esta posibilidad de sí mismo, queda enteramente remitido a su poder-ser más propio. Siendo de esta manera inminente para sí, quedan desatados en él todos los respectos a otro Dasein. Esta posibilidad más propia e irrespectiva es, al mismo tiempo, la posibilidad extrema. En cuanto poder-ser, el Dasein es incapaz de superar la posibilidad de la muerte. La muerte es la posibilidad de la radical imposibilidad de existir (Daseinsunmöglichkeit). La muerte se revela así como la posibilidad más propia, irrespectiva e insuperable. Como tal, (GA2 251) ella es una inminencia sobresaliente. Su posibilidad existencial se funda en que el Dasein está esencialmente abierto para sí mismo, y lo está en la manera del anticiparse-a-sí. Este momento estructural del cuidado recibe en el estar vuelto hacia la muerte su más originaria concreción. El estar vuelto hacia el fin cobra mayor claridad fenoménica cuando se lo concibe como un estar vuelto hacia la posibilidad eminente del Dasein así caracterizada. (p. 270-271)

L’interprétation d’ensemble du pas-encore, de l’ultime pas-encore et de la fin du Dasein, au sens d’un restant en attente, a été récusée comme inadéquate, car elle impliquait la distorsion ontologique du Dasein en un étant là-devant. Être-à-la-fin veut dire existentialement : être vers la fin. L’ultime pas-encore a le caractère de quelque chose à quoi le Dasein se rapporte. La fin attend le Dasein, elle le guette. La mort n’est pas un étant qui n’est pas encore là-devant ni le dernier restant réduit au minimum; non c’est plutôt une imminence.

Le Dasein comme être-au-monde peut cependant avoir bien des choses en perspective. Le caractère d’imminence n’est pas, pris en lui-même, ce qui donne à la mort sa marque distinctive. Au contraire : même cette interprétation pourrait encore faire penser que la mort devrait s’entendre comme un événement imminent dont la rencontre se fera dans le monde ambiant. Imminent, par exemple, un orage peut l’être, de même que le nouvel aménagement d’une maison, (304) l’arrivée d’un ami, en un mot l’étant qui est là-devant, utilisable ou coexistant. Ce n’est pas un être de ce genre qu’a la mort dans son imminence.

Mais pour le Dasein un voyage, par exemple, une explication avec autrui, une renonciation à ce que le Dasein lui-même peut être en général peuvent aussi être imminents : autant de possibilités d’être qu’il a et qui se fondent sur l’être-avec en compagnie des autres.

La mort est une possibilité d’être que le Dasein a, chaque fois, à assumer lui-même. Avec la mort le Dasein a rendez-vous avec lui-même dans son pouvoir-être le plus propre. Dans cette possibilité-là il y va purement et simplement pour le Dasein de son être-au-monde. Sa mort est la possibilité de ne-plus-être-Dasein. Si le Dasein est imminent à lui-même sous la forme de cette possibilité de soi, il est complètement renvoyé à son pouvoir-être le plus propre.

Quand il est ainsi imminent à lui-même, toutes ses relations au Dasein d’autrui sont dénouées. Cette possibilité tout à fait propre, sans relation au Dasein d’autrui est en même temps la possibilité extrême. En fait de pouvoir-être, le Dasein n’est pas en mesure de dépasser la possibilité de la mort. La mort est la possibilité de la pure et simple impossibilité du Dasein. Aussi la mort se révèle-t-elle comme la possibilité la plus propre, sans relation au Dasein d’autrui, indépassable. En tant que telle, elle est une imminence [SZ:251] insigne. Sa possibilité existentiale se fonde en ce que le Dasein est essentiellement découvert à lui-même et l’est justement à la manière de l’avance sur soi. Ce moment structural du souci a dans l’être vers la mort sa concrétisation la plus originale. L’être vers la fin se voit mieux phénoménalement comme être vers la possibilité du Dasein qui a été caractérisée comme insigne. (p. 303-304)

The Interpretation in which the “Not-yet — and with it even the uttermost “not-yet”, the end of Dasein — Was taken in the sense of something still outstanding, has been rejected as inappropriate in that it included the ontological perversion of making Dasein something present-at-Hand. Being-at-an-end implies existentially Being-towards-the-end. The uttermost “not-yet” has the character of something towards which Dasein comports itself. The end is impending (steht. . . bevor) for Dasein. Death is not something not yet present-at-hand, nor is it that which is ultimately (294) still outstanding but which has been reduced to a minimum. Death is something that stands before us — something impending.

However, there is much that can impend for Dasein as Being-in-the-world. The character of impendence is not distinctive of death. On the contrary, this Interpretation could even lead us to suppose that death must be understood in the sense of some impending event encountered environmentally. For instance, a storm, the remodelling of the house, or the arrival of a friend, may be impending; and these are entities which are respectively present-at-hand, ready-to-hand, and there-with-us. The death which impends does not have this kind of Being.

But there may also be impending for Dasein a journey, for instance, or a disputation with Others, or the forgoing of something of a kind which Dasein itself can be — its own possibilities of Being, which are based on its Being with Others.

Death is a possibility-of-Being which Dasein itself has to take over in every case. With death, Dasein stands before itself in its ownmost potentiality-for-Being. This is a possibility in which the issue is nothing less than Dasein’s Being-in-the-world. Its death is the possibility of no-longer being-able-to-be-there. If Dasein stands before itself as this possibility, it has been fully assigned to its ownmost potentiality-for-Being. When it stands before itself in this way, all its relations to any other Dasein have been undone. This ownmost non-relational  possibility is at the same time the uttermost one.

As potentiality-for-Being, Dasein cannot outstrip the possibility of death. Death is the possibility of the absolute impossibility of Dasein. Thus death reveals itself as that possibility which is one’s ownmost, which is [SZ:251] non-relational, and which is not to be outstripped (unüberholbare). As such, death is something distinctively impending. Its existential possibility is based on the fact that Dasein is essentially disclosed to itself, and disclosed, indeed, as ahead-of-itself. This item in the structure of care has its most primordial concretion in Being-towards-death. As a phenomonon, Being-towards-the-end (295) becomes plainer as Being towards that distinctive possibility of Dasein which we have characterized. (p. 293-295)

Im Gegenteil: auch diese Interpretation könnte noch die Vermutung nahelegen, der Tod müßte im Sinne eines bevorstehenden, umweltlich begegnenden Ereignisses verstanden Werden. Bevorstehen kann zum Beispiel ein Gewitter, der Umbau des Hauses, die Ankunft eines Freundes, Seiendes demnach, was Vorhanden, Zuhanden oder mit-da-ist. Ein Sein dieser Art hat der bevorstehende Tod nicht.

Bevorstehen kann dem Dasein aber auch zum Beispiel eine Reise, eine Auseinandersetzung mit Anderen, ein Verzicht auf solches, was das Dasein Selbst sein kann: eigene Seinsmöglichkeiten, die im Mitsein mit Anderen gründen.

Der Tod ist eine Seinsmöglichkeit, die je das Dasein selbst zu übernehmen hat. Mit dem Tod steht sich das Dasein selbst in seinem eigensten Seinkönnen bevor. In dieser Möglichkeit geht es dem Dasein um Sein in-der-Welt-sein schlechthin. Sein Tod ist die Möglichkeit des Nicht-mehr-dasein-könnens. Wenn das Dasein als diese Möglichkeit seiner selbst sich bevorsteht, ist es völlig auf sein eigenstes Seinkönnen verwiesen. So sich bevorstehend sind in ihm alle Bezüge zu anderem Dasein gelöst. Diese eigenste, unbezügliche Möglichkeit ist zugleich die äußerste. Als Seinkönnen vermag das Dasein die Möglichkeit des Todes nicht zu überholen. Der Tod ist die Möglichkeit der schlechthinnigen Daseinsunmöglichkeit. So enthüllt sich der Tod als die eigenste, unbezügliche, unüherholhare Möglichkeit. Als (251) solche ist er ein ausgezeichneter Bevorstand. Dessen existenziale Möglichkeit gründet darin, daß das Dasein ihm selbst wesenhaft erschlossen ist und zwar in der Weise des sich-vorweg. Dieses Strukturmoment der Sorge hat im Sein zum Tode seine ursprünglichste Konkretion. Das Sein zum Ende wird phänomenal deutlicher als Sein zu der charakterisierten ausgezeichneten Möglichkeit des Daseins. (p. 250-251)
