A ambiguidade da interpretação pública proporciona as falas adiantadas e os pressentimentos curiosos com relação ao que propriamente acontece, carimbando assim as realizações e as ações com o selo de retardatário e insignificante. Desse modo, no impessoal, o compreender da presença (Dasein) não vê a si mesmo em seus projetos, no tocante às possibilidades ontológicas autênticas. A presença (Dasein) é e está sempre “por aí” de modo ambíguo, ou seja, por aí na abertura pública da convivência, onde a falação mais intensa e a curiosidade mais aguda controlam o “negócio”, onde cotidianamente tudo e, no fundo, nada acontece.

Essa ambiguidade oferece à curiosidade o que ela busca e confere à falação a aparência de que nela tudo se decide.

Esse modo de ser da abertura do ser-no-mundo também domina inteiramente a convivência como tal. Numa primeira aproximação, o outro “está por aí” pelo que se ouviu impessoalmente dele, pelo que se sabe e se fala a seu respeito. A falação logo se insinua dentre as formas de convivência originária. Todo mundo presta primeiro atenção em como o outro se comporta, no que ele irá dizer. A convivência no impessoal não é, de forma alguma, uma justaposição acabada e indiferente, mas um prestar atenção uns nos outros, ambíguo e tenso. Trata-se de um escutar uns aos outros secretamente. Sob a máscara do ser um para o outro atua o ser um contra o outro.

Neste sentido, deve-se considerar que a ambiguidade não nasce primordialmente de uma intenção explícita de deturpação e distorção e nem é detonada primeiro por uma presença (Dasein) singular. A ambiguidade já subsiste na convivência enquanto convivência lançada num mundo. Entretanto, publicamente, ela se esconde, e o impessoal haverá sempre de objetar que essa interpretação não corresponde ao modo de ser da interpretação do impessoal. Seria (239) um equívoco pretender que o impessoal concordasse com a explicação desse fenômeno.

La comprensión del Dasein en el uno se equivoca, pues, constantemente en sus proyectos en relación a las genuinas posibilidades de ser. Ambiguo, el Dasein lo es siempre «Ahí», es decir, en la aperturidad pública del convivir, donde la más bulliciosa habladuría y la curiosidad más ingeniosa mantienen el «quehacer» en marcha, allí donde cotidianamente todo sucede y en el fondo, no sucede nada.

Esta ambigüedad facilita siempre a la curiosidad lo que ella busca, y le da a la habladuría la apariencia de que en ella se decide todo.

Pero este modo de ser de la aperturidad del estar-en-el-mundo impregna totalmente el convivir en cuanto tal. El otro se hace, por lo pronto, «presente» («da») en virtud de lo que se ha oído de él, en virtud de lo que de él se dice y se sabe. En medio del convivir originario, lo primero que se desliza es la habladuría. Cada uno se fija primero y ante todo en el otro: cómo se irá a comportar y qué irá a decir. El convivir en el uno no es de ningún modo un estar-juntos acabado e indiferente, sino un tenso y ambiguo vigilarse unos a otros, un secreto y recíproco espionaje. Bajo la máscara del altruismo, se oculta un estar contra los otros.

Es necesario, sin embargo, advertir que la ambigüedad no tiene en modo alguno su origen en una deliberada intención de disimulo y tergiversación, ni es provocada tampoco por el Dasein singular. Subyace en el convivir en cuanto arrojado en un mundo. Pero ella está oculta públicamente, y uno se defenderá siempre de que esta interpretación del modo de ser del estado interpretativo del uno sea acertada. Sería un malentendido pretender confirmar la explicación de estos fenómenos mediante el asentimiento del uno.

C’est de façon équivoque (zweideutig) que le Dasein est toujours « là », c’est-à-dire dans l’‘être-ouvert-révélé’ public qui est inhérent à l’‘être-l’un-avec-l’autre’, ‘être-ouvert-révélé’ dans lequel le ‘on-dit’ parlant le plus fort et la curiosité la plus ingénieuse entretiennent le « mouvement », là où, au quotidien, tout arrive (geschehen), sans qu’au fond rien n’arrive. Cette équivocité repasse toujours à la curiosité ce que cette dernière recherche, et elle donne à la parlote l’illusion (Schein) que tout se décide en elle. (al. 6)

Mais ce mode d’être de l’‘être-ouvert-révélé’ qui est inhérent à l’‘être-au-monde’ exerce également son empire sur l’‘être-l’un-avec-l’autre’ en tant que tel. L’autre est d’emblée « là », et il l’est en fonction de ce que l’on a entendu le concernant, de ce que l’on dit de lui et de ce que l’on en sait. C’est au coeur de l’‘être-l’un-avec-l’autre’ originel que le ‘on-dit’ se fraye immédiatement un chemin. Chacun commence tout d’abord et immédiatement par surveiller (175) l’autre afin de savoir comment il va se comporter, ce qu’il va dire concernant ceci ou cela. Tel qu’il s’exprime dans le ‘On’, l’‘être-l’un-avec-l’autre’ n’est absolument pas un côtoiement (Nebeneinander) fermé, indifférent, mais c’est une surveillance réciproque tendue (spannen), équivoque, un secret espionnage mutuel. Sous le masque de l’un-pour-l’autre joue un l’un-contre-l’autre. (al. 7)

Il faut ici noter que l’équivocité n’a vraiment pas pour source première une Intention expresse de déguisement et d’altération, que ce n’est point par le Dasein singulier qu’elle est en premier provoquée. Elle repose déjà dans l’‘être-l’un-avec-l’autre’ en tant qu’‘être-l’un-avec-l’autre’ qui a été lancé dans un monde. Mais justement, de façon publique, elle est cachée, et l’on se défendra toujours contre le fait que cette interprétation du mode d’être de l’état d’explicitation du ‘On’ soit pertinente. Ce serait se méprendre que de vouloir tirer de l’approbation du ‘On’ la vérification de l’explicitation de ces phénomènes. (al. 8)

In the ambiguity of the way things have been publicly interpreted, talking about things ahead of the game and making surmises about them curiously, gets passed off as what is really happening, while taking action and carrying something through get stamped as something merely subsequent and unimportant. Thus Dasein's understanding in the "they" is constantly going wrong (versieht sich) in its projects, as regards the genuine possibilities of Being. Dasein is always ambiguously 'there'-that is to say, in that public disclosedness of Being-with-one-another where the loudest idle talk and the most ingenious curiosity keep 'things moving', where, in an everyday manner, everything (and at bottom nothing) is happening.

This ambiguity is always tossing to curiosity that which it seeks ; and it gives idle talk the semblance of having everything decided in it.

But this kind of Being of the disclosedness of Being-in-the-world dominates also Being-with-one-another as such. The Other is proximally 'there' in terms of what "they" have heard about him, what "they" say in their talk about him, and what "they" know about him. Into primordial Being-with-one-another, idle talk first slips itself in between.

Everyone keeps his eye on the Other first and next, watching how he will comport himself and what he will say in reply. Being-with-one-another in the "they" is by no means an indifferent side-by-side-ness in which everything has been settled, but rather an intent, ambiguous watching of one another, a secret and reciprocal listening-in. Under the mask of "for-one-another", an "against-one-another" is in play.

In this connection, we must notice that ambiguity does Not first arise from aiming explicitly at disguise or distortion, and that it is not something which the individual Dasein first conjures up. It is already implied in Being with one another, as thrown Being-with-one-another in a world. Publicly, however, it is quite hidden ; and "they" will always defend themselves against this Interpretation of the kind of Being which belongs to the way things have been interpreted by the "they", lest it should prove correct. It would be a misunderstanding if we were to seek to have the explication of these phenomena confirmed by looking to the "they" for agreement.

Die Zweideutigkeit der öffentlichen Ausgelegtheit gibt das vor-Weg-bereden und neugierige Ahnen für das eigentliche Geschehen aus und stempelt Durchführen und Handeln zu einem Nachträglichen und Belanglosen. Das Verstehen des Daseins im Man versieht sich daher in seinen Entwürfen ständig hinsichtlich der echten Seinsmöglichkeiten. Zweideutig ist das Dasein immer »da«, das heißt in der öffentlichen Erschlossenheit des Miteinanderseins, wo das lauteste Gerede und die findigste Neugier den »Betrieb« im Gang halten, da, wo alltäglich alles und im Grunde Nichts geschieht.

Diese Zweideutigkeit spielt der Neugier immer das zu, Was sie sucht, und gibt dem Gerede den Schein, als würde in ihm alles entschieden.

Diese Seinsart der Erschlossenheit des In-der-Welt-seins durch-herrscht aber auch das Miteinandersein als solches. Der Andere ist Zunächst »da« aus dem her, was man von ihm gehört hat, was man über ihn redet und weiß. Zwischen das ursprüngliche Miteinandersein schiebt sich zunächst das Gerede. Jeder paßt zuerst und zunächst auf den Andern auf, Wie er sich verhalten, was er dazu sagen wird. Das Miteinandersein im Man ist ganz und gar Nicht ein abgeschlossenes, gleichgültiges Nebeneinander, sondern ein gespanntes, zweideutiges Aufeinander-aufpassen, ein heimliches Sich-gegenseitig-abhören. Unter der Maske des Füreinander spielt ein Gegeneinander.

Dabei ist zu beachten, daß die Zweideutigkeit gar nicht erst einer ausdrücklichen Absicht auf Verstellung und Verdrehung entspringt, daß sie nicht vom einzelnen Dasein erst hervorgerufen wird. Sie liegt schon im Miteinandersein als dem geworfenen Miteinandersein in einer Welt. Aber öffentlich ist sie gerade verborgen, und man wird sich immer dagegen wehren, daß diese Interpretation der Seinsart der Ausgelegtheit des Man zutrifft. Es wäre ein Mißverständnis, wollte die Explikation dieser Phänomene durch die Zustimmung des Man sich bewähren.
