O ser si mesmo é a essenciação do ser-aí e o ser si mesmo do homem realiza-se apenas a partir da insistência no ser-aí.

Costuma-se conceber o “si mesmo” por um lado na ligação de um eu “consigo”. Essa ligação é tomada como uma ligação representacional. E, por fim, a ipseidade daquele que representa é tomada com o representado enquanto essência do “si mesmo”. Neste caminho e em caminhos correspondentemente modulados, contudo, a essência do si mesmo nunca tem como ser alcançada.

Pois, antes de tudo, não há nenhuma propriedade do homem presente à vista e, com a consciência do eu, só há uma propriedade aparente. De onde vem essa aparência é algo que só pode ser clarificado a partir da essência do si mesmo. (311)

Ipseidade emerge como essenciação do ser-aí a partir da origem do ser-aí. E a origem do si mesmo é a proprie-dade. Essa palavra é aqui tomada como a palavra princip-ado. O domínio da apropriação no acontecimento apropriador. A apropriação é, sobretudo, atribuição apro-priadora e sobreapropriação. Na medida em que o ser-aí é atribuído de maneira apropriadora a si como pertencente ao acontecimento apropriador, ele chega a si mesmo; mas nunca de modo tal como se o si mesmo fosse já uma consistência presente à vista, só que ainda não alcançada até aqui. Ao contrário, o ser-aí só chega a si mesmo, na medida em que a atribuição apropriadora ao pertencimento se torna ao mesmo tempo sobreapropriação no acontecimento apropriador. Ser-aí – persistência constante do aí. A proprie-dade como domínio da apropriação é acontecimento da atribuição a si próprio e como sobreapropriação em si conjugada.

A insistência nesse acontecimento da propriedade possibilita pela primeira vez ao homem chegar a “si” historicamente e ser junto a si. E somente esse junto a si é o fundamento suficiente, para assumir verdadeiramente o para o outro. Mas o chegar-a-si nunca é justamente uma representação do eu anteriormente desatada, mas a assunção do pertencimento à verdade do ser, salto para o interior do aí. A propriedade como fundamento da ipseidade funda o ser-aí. Propriedade, porém, é ela mesma uma vez mais a persistência constante da viragem no acontecimento apropriador.

Propriedade é, assim, ao mesmo tempo o fundamento consonante com o ser-aí da retenção.

A ligação reflexiva, que é denominada no “si”, para “si”, junto a “si”, por “si”, tem sua essência na apropriação.

Na medida em que agora o homem se encontra mesmo no abandono do ser ainda no aberto da inessência do ente, está incessantemente dada a possibilidade de ele ser por “si”, de ele retornar a “si”. Mas o “si” e o si mesmo determinado a partir daí como o apenas si mesmo permanece vazio e só se preenche a partir do ente presente à vista e previamente dado e do que é empreendido precisamente pelo homem. O para-si não tem nenhum caráter de decisão e é sem saber em torno do aprisionamento no acontecimento do ser-aí. (312)

A ipseidade é mais originária do que todo eu e do que todo tu e nós. Esses só se reúnem enquanto tais no si mesmo e se tornam, assim, a cada vez eles “mesmos”.

Inversamente, a dispersão do eu, do tu e do nós, assim como o seu esboroamento e o seu superdimensionamento, não é nenhum mero fracasso do homem, mas o acontecimento da impotência em relação a suportar e saber sobre a propriedade, o abandono do ser.

Ser si mesmo – com isso temos em vista de saída sempre o seguinte: fazer e deixar de fazer por si, dispor de si. Mas o “a partir de si” é um primeiro plano ilusório. A partir de si pode não ser mais do que uma mera “teimosia”, da qual diverge toda atribuição apropriadora e toda sobreapropriação a partir do acontecimento apropriador.

A amplitude de vibração do si mesmo se dirige para a originariedade da propriedade e, com isso, para a verdade do seer.

Expelidos dessa verdade e cambaleando no abandono do ser, nós não sabemos senão muito pouco sobre a essência do si mesmo e sobre os caminhos para o saber autêntico. Pois por demais tenaz é o primado da consciência “egoica”, sobretudo porque essa consciência pode se esconder em múltiplas figuras. As mais perigosas são aquelas, nas quais o “eu” sem mundo teria aparentemente abdicado de si e se entregue a um outro, que seria “maior” do que ele e ao qual ele é atribuído de maneira parcial e parte a parte. A dissolução do “eu” na “vida” como povo: aqui, a superação do “eu” é viabilizada a partir do abandono da primeira condição de tal superação, a saber, a meditação sobre o ser-si-mesmo e sobre sua essência, que se determina a partir da atribuição apropriadora e da sobreapropriação.

A ipseidade é o estremecimento conquistado a partir do acontecimento da apropriação que suporta tal acontecimento, o estremecimento da reciprocidade da contenda na abertura do fosso abissal.

Being a self is the essential occurrence of Da-sein, and the self of the human being is attained only through steadfastness in Da-Sein.

The “self” is customarily grasped only in the relation of an I to “itself.” This relation is taken as representational. And ultimately the self-sameness of the one who is representing with that which is represented comes to be taken as the essence of the “self.” Yet in this way, or in any variant of it, the essence of the self will never be reached.

For, in the first place, the self is Not a property of an objectively present human being, and only semblantly is the self given with I-consciousness. The provenance of this semblance can be clarified only on the basis of the essence of the self.

Selfhood, as the essential occurrence of Da-sein, arises out of the origin of Da-sein. And the origin of the self is the domain of what is proper. This term taken in analogy with “domain of a prince.” The reigning of appropriation in the event. Appropriation (Eignung) is at once assignment (Zu-eignung) and consignment (Übereignung). Inasmuch as Dasein is assigned to itself as belonging to the event, Da-sein does come to its self, but never as if the self were already an objectively present item that simply had not previously been reached. Rather, Da-sein comes to itself first precisely when the assignment to the belonging becomes at once a consignment into the event. Da-sein: enduring of the “there.” The domain of what is proper, as the reigning of appropriation, is the occurrence of the intrinsically conjoined assignment and consignment.

Steadfastness in this occurrence of the domain of what is proper first enables one to come to “oneself” historically and to be with oneself. And only this “with oneself” is the sufficient ground for truly taking on the “for others.” But this coming to oneself is most definitely never a previous, detached representation of the I. Instead, it is the acceptance of the belonging to the truth of being; it is leaping into the “there.” The domain of what is proper, as the ground of selfhood, grounds Da-sein. Yet the domain of what is proper is itself, for its part, the enduring of the turning in the event.

The domain of what is proper is thus at the same time, by way of Dasein, the ground of restraint.

The relation back which is named in the terms “self,” to “itself,” with “itself,” and for “itself” has its essence in appropriation.

Now, inasmuch as the human being, even in the abandonment by being, still stands in the open realm of the distorted essence of beings, the possibility is always given to be for “oneself,” to come back to “oneself.” But the “oneself” and the self which is thereby determined as merely something self-same remain empty and are filled only out of what is objectively present and lying there and at the moment dealt with by the human being. The to-oneself has no decisional character and is without knowledge of the bond to the occurrence of Da-sein.

Selfhood is more originary than any I or thou or we. These are as such first gathered in the self and thereby become each respective “self.”

Conversely, the dispersal of the I, the thou, and the we, as well as their crumbling and massing together, are not simple human failures; they are the occurrence of the powerlessness to endure and know the domain of what is proper, i.e., they are the occurrence of the abandonment by being.

Being a self – by that we always mean immediately: doing, omitting, and disposing on one’s own initiative. But the “on one’s own initiative” is superficial and illusory. It can amount to sheer “self-will,” from which is missing all assignment and consignment out of the event.

The amplitude of the oscillation of the self takes direction from the originality of the domain of what is proper and thus from the truth of beyng.

Expelled from this truth and floundering in the abandonment by being, we know little enough of either the essence of the self or the ways to genuine knowledge. For, all too tenacious is the priority of “I”-consciousness, especially since this consciousness can be concealed in diverse forms. The most dangerous forms are those whereby a world-less “I” apparently gives itself up and submits to an other which is “greater” than itself and to which it is assigned piecemeal or in stages. The dissolution of the “I” into “life” as a people: here the path to an overcoming of the “I” is paved by foregoing the very first condition of such an overcoming, namely, meditation on being a self and on its essence, an essence determined by assignment and consignment.

Selfhood is the trembling of the countering of the strife in the fissuring, and this trembling is seized from out of the appropriation and withstands the appropriation.

Das Selbstsein ist Wesung des Da-seins, und das Selbstsein des Menschen vollzieht sich erst aus der Inständigkeit im Da-sein.

Das »Selbst« pflegt Man zu begreifen einmal in dem Bezug eines Ich auf »sich«. Dieser Bezug wird als ein vorstellender genommen. Und schließlich wird die Selbigkeit des Vorstellenden mit dem Vorgestellten als Wesen des »Selbst« gefaßt. Auf diesem und entsprechend abgewandelten Wegen ist jedoch das Wesen des Selbst nie zu erreichen.

Denn zuvor ist es keine Eigenschaft des vorhandenen Menschen und mit dem Ichbewußtsein nur scheinbar gegeben. Woher dieser Schein kommt, kann nur aus dem Wesen des Selbst geklärt Werden.

Selbstheit entspringt als Wesung des Da-seins aus dem Ursprung des Da-seins. Und der Ursprung des Selbst ist das (320) Eigentum. Dieses Wort Hier genommen Wie Fürstentum. Die Herrschaft der Eignung im Ereignis. Die Eignung ist zumal Zueignung und Übereignung. Sofern das Da-sein sich zu-ge-eignet wird als zugehörig zum Ereignis, kommt es zu sich selbst, aber nie so, als wäre das Selbst schon ein vorhandener, nur bisher Nicht erreichter Bestand. Vielmehr zu sich selbst kommt das Da-sein erst, indem die Zu-eignung in die Zugehörigkeit zugleich über-eignung wird in das Ereignis. Da-sein — Beständnis des Da. Das Eigentum als Herrschaft der Eignung ist Geschehnis der in sich gefügten Zu- und Übereignung.

Die Inständigkeit in diesem Geschehnis des Eigentums ermöglicht erst dem Menschen, geschichtlich zu »sich« zu kommen und bei-sich zu sein. Und erst dieses Bei-sich ist der zureichende Grund, um das Für Andere wahrhaft zu übernehmen. Aber das Zu-sich-kommen ist eben nie eine zuvor abgelöste Ich-Vorstellung, sondern Übernahme der Zugehörigkeit in die Wahrheit des Seins, Einsprung in das Da. Das Eigentum als Grund der Selbstheit gründet das Da-sein. Eigentum aber ist selbst wieder das Beständnis der Kehre im Ereignis.

Eigentum ist so zugleich der daseinsmäßige Grund der Verhaltenheit.

Der Rückbezug, der im »Sich« genannt wird, zu »sich«, bei »sich«, für »sich«, hat sein Wesen in der Eignung.

Sofern nun der Mensch auch in der Seinsverlassenheit noch im Offenen des Unwesens des Seienden steht, ist jederzeit die Möglichkeit gegeben, für »sich« zu sein, auf »sich« zurückzukommen. Aber das »Sich« und das hieraus bestimmte Selbst als das Nur-Selbe bleibt leer und erfüllt sich nur aus dem Vorhandenen und Vorfindlichen und gerade von Menschen Betriebenen. Das Zu-sich hat keinen Entscheidungscharakter und ist ohne Wissen um die Verhaftung in das Geschehnis des Da-seins.

Die Selbstheit ist ursprünglicher als jedes Ich und Du und Wir. Diese sammeln sich als solche erst im Selbst und werden so je sie »selbst«.

(321) Umgekehrt ist die Zerstreuung des Ich, Du und Wir und die Zerbröckelung und Vermassung kein bloßes Versagen des Menschen, sondern das Geschehnis der Ohnmacht, das Eigentum zu bestehen und zu wissen, die Seinsverlassenheit.

Selbstsein — damit meinen wir Zunächst immer: das von sich aus Tun und lassen und Verfügen. Aber das »Von sich aus« ist täuschender Vordergrund. Von sich aus kann bloßer »Eigensinn« sein, dem alle Zu-eignung und Übereignung aus dem Ereignis abgeht.

Die Schwingungsweite des Selbst richtet sich nach der Ursprünglichkeit des Eigentums und damit nach der Wahrheit des Seyns.

Verstoßen aus ihr und taumelnd in der Seinsverlassenheit wissen wir wenig genug um das Wesen des Selbst und um die Wege zu echtem Wissen. Denn allzu hartnäckig ist der Vorrang des »Ich«bewußtseins, zumal dieses in mannigfache Gestalten sich verstecken kann. Die gefährlichsten sind jene, in denen das weltlose »Ich« sich scheinbar auf gegeben und hingegeben hat an ein Anderes, das »größer« ist als es und dem es stückhaft oder gliedweise zugewiesen ist. Die Auflösung des »Ich« in »das Leben« als Volk, hier ist eine Überwindung des »Ich« angebahnt unter Preisgabe der ersten Bedingung einer solchen, nämlich der Besinnung auf das Selbst-sein und sein Wesen, das sich bestimmt aus der Zueignung und Übereignung.

Die Selbstheit ist die aus der Ereignung aufgefangene und sie ausstehende Erzitterung der Widerwendigkeit des Streites in der Erklüftung.
