Por isso, a fim de caracterizar a essência da metafísica, podemos utilizar o título: ser e pensar; de maneira ainda mais clara: entidade e pensamento. Nessa concepção expressa-se o fato de o ser ser concebido a partir do fio condutor do pensamento do ente e com vistas a esse ente enquanto o seu "elemento mais universal"; e isso de tal modo que o "pensar" se compreende como o dizer enunciador. Esse pensamento do ente no sentido do physei e do techne ón, "do ente presente que emerge a partir de si mesmo e do ente presente produzido", permanece o fio condutor para o pensamento filosófico do ser enquanto entidade.

O título ser e pensar também é válido para a metafísica irracionalista, que possui esse nome porque leva ao absurdo o racionalismo, mostrando-se como a instância que está menos em condições de se livrar dele — exatamente como todo a-teísmo se ocupa mais com Deus do que qualquer teísmo.

As an earmark of the essence of all metaphysics, therefore, we can inscribe the title Being and Thinking or, more specifically, Beingness and Thinking; a formulation which stresses that Being is conceived by way of thinking from beings and back to beings as their “most universal” element, whereby “thinking” is understood as assertory speech. Such thinking of beings, in the sense of physei and techne ón, “something present that rises up of itself or is produced,” is the guiding thread for the philosophical thinking of Being as beingness.

The title Being and Thinking is also valid for irrationalist metaphysics, which is so called because it drives rationalism to its very peak – disburdening itself of it, however, least of all, just as every atheism must busy itself with God more than any theism does.

als Kennzeichen des Wesens aller Metaphysik können Wir daher den Titel prägen: Sein und denken, deutlicher: Seiendheit und Denken, in welcher Fassung sich ausdrückt, daß das Sein am Leitfaden des Denkens vom Seienden her auf dieses zu als dessen »Allgemeinstes« begriffen wird, Wobei das »Denken« sich als das aussagende sagen versteht. Dieses Denken des Seienden im Sinne des φύσει und τεχνη ὄν, »des von sich her aufgehenden und des hergestellten Anwesenden«, bleibt der Leitfaden für das philosophische Denken des Seins als Seiendheit.

Der Titel Sein und Denken gilt auch für die irrationale Metaphysik, die so heißt, weil sie den Rationalismus auf die Spitze treibt und am wenigsten sich seiner entledigt, so Wie jeder A-theismus sich mehr mit Gott abgeben muß als der Theismus.
