(...) o homem deve vir a ser o que é, sempre e a cada vez devendo tomar em seus ombros justamente o ser-aí; também não o sabemos se esquecemos que o homem não é se só se deixa enredar em revolvimentos, por mais “intelectuais” que estes possam ser; que o ser-aí não é algo que se utiliza para passear, como um carro, mas algo que o homem precisa assumir expressamente. Mas porque somos da opinião de que não há mais necessidade alguma em sermos fortes e em podermos nos lançar ao encontro do perigo, acabamos por nos afastar todos juntos furtivamente da zona de perigo do ser-aí, na qual talvez façamos mal a nós mesmos em meio à assunção do ser-aí. Hoje, a permanência de fora da opressão na totalidade talvez se mostre da maneira mais incisiva no fato de ninguém se orgulhar atualmente junto ao ser-aí. Nós o levamos hoje muito mais a se queixar sobre as misérias da vida. O homem precisa se decidir primeiro uma vez mais por esta exigência. A necessidade desta decisão é o conteúdo do instante ao mesmo tempo recusado e anunciado de nosso ser-aí. (CFMMFS, p. 194-195)

(...) we have forgotten that Man, if he is to become what he is, in each case has to throw Dasein upon his shoulders; that he precisely is Not when he merely lets himself set about things in the general fray, however “spirited” this may be; that Dasein is not something that one takes for a drive in the car as it were, but something that man must specifically take upon himself. Yet because we are of the opinion that we no longer need to be strong or to expect to throw ourselves open to danger, all of us together have also already slipped out of the danger-zone of Dasein within which, in taking our Dasein upon ourselves, we may perhaps overreach ourselves. That any oppressiveness as a whole is absent today is perhaps most pointedly manifest in the fact that today presumably no one overreaches themselves in their Dasein, but that we at most manage to complain about the misery of life. Man must first resolutely open himself again to this demand. The necessity of this disclosive resolution is what is contained in the telling refusal and simultaneous telling announcement of the moment of vision of our Dasein. (FCMWFS, p. 165)

Wir vergessen Haben, daß der Mensch, wenn er Werden soll, Was er ist, je gerade das Dasein sich auf die Schulter zu werfen hat; daß er gerade Nicht ist, wenn er sich nur gerade im Geschiebe, und sei es noch so »geistig«, treiben läßt; daß das Dasein Nichts ist, was man gleichsam im Wagen spazieren fährt, sondern etwas, was der Mensch eigens übernehmen muß. Weil wir aber der Meinung sind, es nicht mehr nötig zu haben, stark zu Sein und uns der Gefahr entgegenwerfen (247) zu dürfen, haben wir uns auch schon alle zusammen aus der Gefahrenzone des Daseins fortgeschlichen, in der wir vielleicht beim Übernehmen des Daseins uns überheben. Daß die Bedrängnis im Ganzen heute ausbleibt, zeigt sich vielleicht am schärfsten darin, daß vermutlich heute sich Niemand mehr am Dasein überhebt, sondern daß wir es allenfalls noch zu Klagen bringen über die Misere des Lebens. Der Mensch muß sich erst wieder zu dieser Zumutung entschließen. Die Notwendigkeit dieses Entschlusses ist der Inhalt des versagten und zugleich angesagten Augenblickes unseres Daseins.
