Todo ente, respecto del que nos comportamos, puede ser encarado y considerado, con independencia de su modo de ser específico, con: «es» tal o cual. El ser de un ente se nos aparece en la comprensión del ser. La comprensión es aquello que nos abre ante todo algo así como el ser o, como decimos nos lo revela (erschliesst), «Hay» ser sólo en la específica revelación (Erschlossenheit), que caracteriza la comprensión del ser. Pero a la revelación de algo lo llamamos la verdad. Éste es el concepto apropiado de verdad, tal como ya en la antigüedad se puso de manifiesto. Hay ser sólo cuando hay revelación, esto es, cuando hay verdad. Sin embargo, hay verdad sólo cuando existe un ente, que abre, que revela, de suerte que pertenezca al modo de ser de este ente el revelar mismo. Tal ente somos nosotros mismos. El Dasein existe en la verdad. Al Dasein pertenece esencialmente un mundo abierto y a la vez por ello la apertura (Aufgeschlossenheit) de sí mismo. El Dasein es, según la esencia de su existencia, «en» la verdad y precisamente por esto, tiene la posibilidad de ser «en» la no verdad. Sólo hay ser si hay verdad, es decir, si existe el Dasein. Y sólo por eso el carácter de encarable que pertenece al ente no es sólo posible, sino, dentro de ciertos límites  — dado por supuesto que exista el Dasein — , siempre necesario. Estos problemas de la relación entre el ser y la verdad los englobamos dentro del problema del carácter de verdad del ser (peritas transcendentalis). (p. 44)

Every being with which we have any dealings can be addressed and spoken of by saying “it is” thus and so, regardless of its specific mode of being. We meet with a beings being in the understanding of being. It is understanding that first of all opens up or, as we say, discloses or reveals something like being. Being “is given” only in the specific disclosedness that characterizes the understanding of being. But we call the disclosedness of something truth. That is the proper concept of truth, as it already begins to dawn in antiquity. Being is given only if there is disclosure, that is to say, if there is truth. But there is truth only if a being exists which opens up, which discloses, and indeed in such a way that disclosing belongs itself to the mode of being of this being. We ourselves are such a being. The Dasein itself exists in the truth. To the Dasein there belongs essentially a disclosed world and with that the disclosedness of the Dasein itself. The Dasein, by the nature of its existence, is “in” truth, and only because it is "in” truth does it have the possibility of being “in” untruth. Being is given only if truth, [GA24:25-26] (19) hence if the Dasein, exists. And only for this reason is it Not merely possible to address beings but within certain limits sometimes — presupposing that the Dasein exists — necessary. We shall consolidate these problems of the interconnectedness between being and truth into the Problem of the truth-character of being (veritas transcendentalis). (p. 18-19)

Jedes Seiende, zu dem Wir uns Verhalten, läßt sich, unangesehen seiner spezifischen Seinsart, ansprechen und besprechen mit dem »es ist« so und so. Das Sein eines Seienden begegnet uns im Verstehen von Sein. Das Verstehen ist es, das dergleichen Wie Sein allererst aufschließt oder, wie wir sagen, erschließt. Sein »gibt es« nur in der spezifischen Erschlossenheit, die das Verstehen von Sein charakterisiert. Die Erschlossenheit von etwas aber nennen wir die Wahrheit. Es ist der (25) eigentliche Begriff der Wahrheit, wie er schon in der Antike aufdämmert. Sein gibt es nur, wenn Erschlossenheit ist, d. h. wenn Wahrheit ist. Wahrheit aber ist nur, wenn ein Seiendes existiert, das aufschließt, das erschließt, so zwar, daß zur Seinsart dieses Seienden das Erschließen Selbst gehört. Ein solches Seiendes sind wir selbst. Das Dasein existiert selbst in der Wahrheit. Zum Dasein gehört wesenhaft eine aufgeschlossene Welt und in eins damit die Aufgeschlossenheit seiner selbst. Das Dasein ist dem Wesen seiner Existenz nach »in« der Wahrheit, und nur weil es das ist, hat es die Möglichkeit, »in« der Unwahrheit zu sein. Sein gibt es nur, wenn Wahrheit, d. h. wenn Dasein existiert. Und nur deshalb ist die Ansprechbarkeit des Seienden Nicht nur möglich, sondern in Gewissen Grenzen jeweils — vorausgesetzt, daß Dasein existiert — notwendig. Diese Probleme des Zusammenhangs von Sein und Wahrheit fassen wir zusammen in das Problem des Wahrheitscharakters des Seins (veritas transcendentalis). (p. 24-25)
