Ya se había señalado que en principio y por lo general en el ocuparse cotidiano el Dasein siempre es en cada ocasión aquello que está haciendo. Uno mismo es lo que uno hace . La interpretación de la cotidianidad del Dasein toma el horizonte para la denominación y la interpretación de lo que siempre le ocupa. Se es zapatero, sastre, maestro, banquero. En esto el Dasein es algo que también los demás pueden ser, y son. los otros no sólo coexisten aquí en el mundo-en-torno, esto es, no sólo se tiene en consideración su Mitdasein, por cuanto aquello en que nos ocupamos también cuenta, por lo que hace a su empleabilidad o a su valor, para los demás, sino también por haber otros que hacen lo mismo, que se ocupan en lo (306) mismo . En ambos respectos el co-estar-siendo con los demás se da en una relación (de comparación)  con ellos, es decir, en comparación con los demás y con lo que los demás hacen es como se considera el hacer, el ocuparse propio más o menos logrado o provechoso; en relación a quienes hacen lo mismo, más o menos destacable, inferior, valorable o lo que sea. Respecto del ocuparse en aquello en que uno se ocupa, con, a favor o en contra de ellos, los demás no están simplemente ahí, sino que el ocuparse vive en cuanto ocuparse constantemente al cuidado de una diferencia frente a los demás, aun cuando sólo sea para compensarla, ya porque el Dasein propio quiere, digamos, recuperar el terreno perdido frente a los demás, ya porque, estando por delante, desea impedir que los otros medren. Esta peculiar estructura de ser que rige el co-estar-siendo con los demás en el modo cotidiano del ocuparse la denominamos fenómeno de distanciamiento (Abständigkeit)  — cuidado de la distancia por parte del Dasein — , con independencia de lo consciente o inconsciente que sea. Precisamente quizás cuanto menos sepa de ello el ocuparse cotidiano tanto más insistente y originario resulte este modo de ser con respecto a los demás. Hay gente, por ejemplo, que hace lo que hace pura y exclusivamente por ambición sin tener ningún otro tipo de interés por su quehacer. Todas estas observaciones, por supuesto, no tienen connotación moral alguna, sino que sólo pretenden caracterizar lo que se podría llamar en sentido amplio movimientos que el Dasein hace en su cotidianidad. It Was already suggested that in the “first of all and most of all” of everyday concern, the temporally particular Dasein is always what it pursues. One is what one does. The everyday interpretation of Dasein takes its horizon of interpretation and naming from what is of concern in each particular instance. One is a shoemaker, tailor, teacher, banker. Here Dasein is something which others also can be and are. the others are environmentally there with us, their co-Dasein is taken into account, Not only because what is of concern has the character of being useful and helpful for others, but also because others provide the same things of concern. In both respects to the others, the being-with with them stands in a relationship to them: with regard to the others and to what the others pursue, one’s own concern is more or less effective or useful; in relation to those who provide the exact same things, one’s own concern is regarded as more or less outstanding, backward, appreciated, or the like. The others are not only simply on Hand in the concern for what one provides with, for, and against them; rather, concern as concern constantly lives in the concern (Sorgi) over being different from, them, even if only to equalize that difference; it may be that one’s own Dasein is falling behind the others and wants to catch up, as it were, or that it has an advantage over (245) them and is intent on keeping them down. This peculiar structure of being, which governs our Being with Others in the everyday manner of concern, shall be called the phenomenon of apartness — Dasein’s concern over being apart — regardless of how conscious we are of it. On the contrary, it is just when everyday concern is not aware of it that this kind of being with the others is perhaps much more stubbornly and primordially there. There are human beings, for example, who do what they do purely out of ambition, without any bearing on what they are pursuing. All of these particulars here of course involve no moral judgments or the like. They only characterize movements in the raw sense, so to speak, which Dasein makes in its everydayness. (p. 244-245)

Es wurde schon angedeutet, im zunächst und zumeist des alltäglichen Besorgens ist das jeweilige Dasein immer das, was es betreibt. Man Selbst ist, was man Macht. Die alltägliche Daseinsauslegung nimmt aus dem je Besorgten, den Horizont der Auslegung und Benennung. Man ist Schuster, Schneider, Lehrer, Bankier, Hierbei ist das Dasein etwas, was auch Andere Sein können und sind. Nicht nur sofern das Besorgte im Charakter der Verwendbarkeit und Beiträglichkeit für Andere steht, sind die Anderen umweltlich mit da, ist ihrem Mitdasein (337) Rechnung getragen, sondern auch sofern Andere dasselbe Besorgen. In beiden Hinsichten auf die Anderen ist das Mitsein mit ihnen in einem Verhältnis zu ihnen, d. h. mit Rücksicht auf die Anderen und auf das, was die Anderen betreiben, ist das eigenes Besorgen mehr oder minder erfolgreich oder nützlich, in Bezug auf die, die Gleiches besorgen, mehr oder minder hervorragend, zurückbleibend, geschätzt oder dergleichen angesehen. Die Anderen sind im Besorgen dessen, was man selbst mit, für und gegen sie besorgt, nicht einfach nur Vorhanden, sondern das Besorgen lebt ständig als Besorgen in der Sorge um einen Unterschied gegen sie, wenn auch nur, um den Unterschied auszugleichen, sei es, daß das eigene Dasein zurückbleibend gegenüber den Ändern gleichsam aufholen will, sei es, daß es im Vorrang über sie darauf aus ist, die Ändern niederzuhalten. Diese eigentümliche Seinsstruktur, die das Mitsein mit den Anderen in der alltäglichen Weise des Besorgens durchherrscht, bezeichnen Wir als das Phänomen der Abständigkeit — die Sorge des Daseins um Abstand — gleichgültig Wie weit sie gewußt ist oder nicht. Im Gegenteil, gerade wenn das alltägliche Besorgen nicht darum weiß, ist vielleicht gerade diese Seinsart mit den Anderen viel hartnäckiger und ursprünglicher da. es gibt z. B. Menschen, die überhaupt nur aus Ehrgeiz das machen, was sie machen, ohne jedes Verständnis zu dem, was sie betreiben. Alle diese Bestimmungen Haben natürlich Hier keine moralische Bewertung oder dergleidien, sondern charakterisieren gleichsam nur Bewegungen im rohen Sinne, die das Dasein in seiner Alltäglichikeit macht.
