Así pues, hay que poner al descubierto en la estructura del Dasein cómo se constituyen tal estar-con-otros determinado a partir del mundo y esa entendibilidad común que con él se da. Debemos preguntar: ¿quién es verdaderamente (305) el que en principio se entiende en tal estar-con-otros? ¿Cómo hay que interpretar el propio entender-de en cuanto modo de ser del estar-con-otros a partir de la constitución de ser del Dasein? Sólo sobre esa base se podrá seguir preguntando: no cómo llega en absoluto a tener lugar el entender-de, sino cómo, siguiendo posibilidades de ser del Dasein, ese entendimiento recíproco que con el Dasein existe ya siempre puede obstruirse y extraviarse, de tal modo que justo sobre la base de un entenderse los unos a los otros que existe ya siempre no se llegue a un auténtico entenderse, que el entendimiento en el sentido del entenderse los unos a los otros quede siempre reprimido y contenido en cierto modo de ser normal del propio Dasein.

Así pues, también la exposición de este nuevo rasgo del estar-siendo-en —el co-estar-siendo—, en el modo de ser en particular del ser desde el mundo, nos insta a volver a la cuestión de la que partíamos: ¿quién es ese Dasein en su cotidianidad? No se debe caer en el error de creer que con decir que el Dasein es siempre el mío —el ser que yo mismo soy— se esté ya respondiendo también a la pregunta acerca de quién es el Dasein en su cotidianidad. Precisamente porque quien pregunta acerca del quién de su ser se codetermina a partir del ser del Dasein que en su manera de ser siempre es lo que es. Esta explicación fenomenológica toma el Dasein en el modo de ser de la cotidianidad, en el quedar absorbidos en el mundo los unos con los otros ocupándose. El Dasein en cuanto co-estar-siendo es ese estar-con-otros. El quién del ser de ese estar-con-otros responde, por lo tanto, desde dicho estar-con-otros. El quién de la cotidianidad es el «uno».

Ya se había señalado que en principio y por lo general  en el ocuparse cotidiano el Dasein siempre es en cada ocasión aquello que está haciendo. Uno mismo es lo que uno hace . La interpretación de la cotidianidad del Dasein toma el horizonte para la denominación y la interpretación de lo que siempre le ocupa. Se es zapatero, sastre, maestro, banquero. En esto el Dasein es algo que también los demás pueden ser, y son. Los otros no sólo coexisten aquí en el mundo-en-torno, esto es, no sólo se tiene en consideración su Mitdasein, por cuanto aquello en que nos ocupamos también cuenta, por lo que hace a su empleabilidad o a su valor, para los demás, sino también por haber otros que hacen lo mismo, que se ocupan en lo (306) mismo . En ambos respectos el co-estar-siendo con los demás se da en una relación (de comparación)  con ellos, es decir, en comparación con los demás y con lo que los demás hacen es como se considera el hacer, el ocuparse propio más o menos logrado o provechoso; en relación a quienes hacen lo mismo, más o menos destacable, inferior, valorable o lo que sea. Respecto del ocuparse en aquello en que uno se ocupa, con, a favor o en contra de ellos, los demás no están simplemente ahí, sino que el ocuparse vive en cuanto ocuparse constantemente al cuidado de una diferencia frente a los demás, aun cuando sólo sea para compensarla, ya porque el Dasein propio quiere, digamos, recuperar el terreno perdido frente a los demás, ya porque, estando por delante, desea impedir que los otros medren. Esta peculiar estructura de ser que rige el co-estar-siendo con los demás en el modo cotidiano del ocuparse la denominamos fenómeno de distanciamiento (Abständigkeit) —cuidado de la distancia por parte del Dasein—, con independencia de lo consciente o inconsciente que sea. Precisamente quizás cuanto menos sepa de ello el ocuparse cotidiano tanto más insistente y originario resulte este modo de ser con respecto a los demás. Hay gente, por ejemplo, que hace lo que hace pura y exclusivamente por ambición sin tener ningún otro tipo de interés por su quehacer. Todas estas observaciones, por supuesto, no tienen connotación moral alguna, sino que sólo pretenden caracterizar lo que se podría llamar en sentido amplio movimientos que el Dasein hace en su cotidianidad.

El ocuparse propio —el Dasein en cuanto co-estar-siendo— ha puesto, de esa manera, a los demás a su cuidado; mejor formulado: el Dasein en cuanto co-estar-siendo es vivido por el Mitdasein de los demás y el mundo con que se ocupa de tal y cual manera. Justamente en el quehacer cotidiano más propio el Dasein, en cuanto co-estar-siendo con los demás, no es él mismo, sino que son los demás los que viven el propio Dasein. Esos otros no tienen por qué ser ningún otro concreto. Cualquier otro puede representar a esos otros. Es absolutamente indiferente el quién ocasional; lo que importa son sólo los otros de que forma parte el Dasein propio. Este peculiar «los demás», «los otros» de que uno mismo es parte y que uno mismo es en el estar-con-otros, es, como si dijéramos, el «sujeto» —lo que en todo momento está aquí, existe— que se hace cargo de todo el ocuparse cotidiano.

Por cuanto el Dasein, en el ocuparse de su mundo, es co-estar-siendo, y en cuanto tal co-estar-siendo con los demás queda absorbido en el mundo, (307) ese mundo-en-torno común es al mismo tiempo el mundo-en-torno público que cada uno ha puesto a su cuidado, y tiene en consideración, del cual hace uso, y en el que se mueve de una u otra manera. Nos movemos aquí en maneras de ser con los demás que cualquier otro, exactamente igual que yo, es, en las que cesa cualquier diferencia referente a las ocupaciones o a la profesión. Ese estar-con-otros disuelve por completo el Dasein propio en el modo de ser de los demás; se deja de tal manera llevar por los demás que los demás, en lo que tienen de diferentes, desaparecen todavía más. En el ámbito de sus posibilidades de ser, cada uno es plenamente el otro. Aquí es donde el particular «sujeto» de la cotidianidad —el uno— tiene pleno dominio. El estar-con-otros público se vive plenamente desde ese uno. Uno goza y disfruta como se goza; leemos y juzgamos de literatura como se juzga; oímos música como se oye música; hablamos de algo como se habla .

The structure of Dasein must now be displayed in terms of how such a being-with-one-another determined by the world and the common understanding given with it are constituted in Dasein. The question is, who is it really who first of all understands himself in such a being-with-one-another? How is such an understanding itself to be interpreted as a kind of being-with-one-another in terms of the constitution of the being of Dasein? Upon this basis we can then ask a further question. But this question is Not how understanding in general comes about but how the mutual understanding, which is always already included with Dasein by virtue of its possibilities of being, can be obstructed and misled; how is it that Dasein does not come to a genuine understanding precisely because there is always already an understanding of one another? Instead, this latter understanding is always held down to a distinctive average mode of being of Dasein itself.

Thus the exposition of this new character of in-being—being-with—specifically in its mode of being drawn from the world, also presses toward the question from which we started: Who is this Dasein in its everydayness? We must not succumb to the deception that when we say, “Dasein is in each instance mine”—the being which I myself am—, the answer to the question of the who of Dasein in its everydayness is also already given. Precisely because the Who asks about the who of its being, it codetermines itself with regard to the being of the Dasein which in its manner of being is in each instance what it is. This phenomenological explication takes the Dasein in its mode of being of everydayness, in concerned absorption with one another in the world. Dasein as being-with is this being-with-one-another. The who of the being of being-with-one-another therefore receives its answer from this being-with-one-another. The who of everydayness is the ‘Anyone’ .

It Was already suggested that in the “first of all and most of all” of everyday concern, the temporally particular Dasein is always what it pursues. One is what one does. The everyday interpretation of Dasein takes its horizon of interpretation and naming from what is of concern in each particular instance. One is a shoemaker, tailor, teacher, banker. Here Dasein is something which others also can be and are. the others are environmentally there with us, their co-Dasein is taken into account, not only because what is of concern has the character of being useful and helpful for others, but also because others provide the same things of concern. In both respects to the others, the being-with with them stands in a relationship to them: with regard to the others and to what the others pursue, one’s own concern is more or less effective or useful; in relation to those who provide the exact same things, one’s own concern is regarded as more or less outstanding, backward, appreciated, or the like. The others are not only simply on Hand in the concern for what one provides with, for, and against them; rather, concern as concern constantly lives in the concern (Sorge) over being different from them, even if only to equalize that difference; it may be that one’s own Dasein is falling behind the others and wants to catch up, as it were, or that it has an advantage over them and is intent on keeping them down. This peculiar structure of being, which governs our Being with Others in the everyday manner of concern, shall be called the phenomenon of apartness—Dasein’s concern over being apart—regardless of how conscious we are of it. On the contrary, it is just when everyday concern is not aware of it that this kind of being with the others is perhaps much more stubbornly and primordially there. There are human beings, for example, who do what they do purely out of ambition, without any bearing on what they are pursuing. All of these particulars here of course involve no moral judgments or the like. They only characterize movements in the raw sense, so to speak, which Dasein makes in its everydayness.

One’s own concern—Dasein as being-with—has placed the others in its care in this way (in its concern over being apart). To put it more adequately, Dasein as being-with is lived by the co-Dasein of others and the world which concerns it in this or that way. Right in its own-most everyday pursuits, Dasein as being with the others is not itself. Instead, it is the others who live one’s own Dasein. These others moreover do not have to be definite others. Any other can represent them. It really does not matter who it is at the time. What matters is only the others to whom one’s own Dasein itself belongs. These others, to whom one oneself belongs and who one is in being-with-one-another, constitute the ‘subject,’ so to speak, which in its constant presence pursues and manages every everyday concern.

Now insofar as Dasein in its concern for its world is being-with and as such is absorbed with the others in the world, this common world is at the same time the world which each one of us has placed in his care as a public environment which one puts to use and takes into account and moves about in. Here we move with others in modes of being which every other is just as I am, where every distinction in occupation and profession collapses. The being-with-one-another dissolves one’s own Dasein totally into the mode of being of the others. The Dasein allows itself to be carried along by others in such a way that the others in their distinctiveness vanish even more. In the sphere of its possibilities of being, each is totally the other. It is here that the peculiar ‘subject’ of everydayness—the Anyone—first has its total domination. The public being-with-one-another is lived totally from this Anyone. We take pleasure and enjoy ourselves as one takes pleasure and we read and judge about literature as one judges, we hear music as one hears music, we speak about something as one speaks.

Die Struktur des Daseins ist nun daraufhin freizulegen, Wie in ihm sich ein solches aus der Welt her bestimmtes Miteinandersein und eine damit gegebene Gemeinverständlichkeit konstituiert. Es ist zu fragen: Wer ist es eigentlich, der sich Zunächst in einem solchen Miteinandersein versteht? Wie ist soldies (336) Verstellen Selbst als Seinsart des Miteinanderseins aus der Seinsverfassung des Daseins zu interpretieren? Auf diesem Boden erst ist dann weiter zu fragen, Nicht wie das Verstehen überhaupt zustande kommt, sondern wie das mit dem Dasein immer schon Seiende gegenseitige Verständnis aufgrund von Seinsmöglichkeiten des Daseins verbaut und mißleitet Werden kann, so daß es gerade auf dem Grunde eines immer schon seienden Einanderverstehens nicht zu einem echten Verstehen kommt, daß das Verständnis im Sinne des Einanderverstehens immer niedergehalten wird in einer bestimmten durchschnittlichen Seinsart des Daseins selbst.

So drängt auch der Auf weis des neuen Charakters des In-Seins – das Mitsein – und zwar in der Seinsart des aus der Welt her Seins auf die Frage, von der Wir ausgingen: Wer ist dieses Dasein in seiner Alltäglichkeit? Man darf nicht der Täuschung Verfallen, daß damit, daß gesagt wird, Dasein ist je meines – das Sein, das Ich selbst bin – auch schon die Antwort auf die Frage nach dem Wer des Daseins in seiner Alltäglichkeit gegeben sei. Gerade weil Wer fragt nach dem Wer seines Seins, bestimmt es sich mit aus dem Sein des Daseins, das je in seiner Seinsweise ist, was es ist. Diese phänomenologische Explikation nimmt das Dasein in der Seinsart der Alltäglichkeit, im besorgenden Miteinanderaufgehen in der Welt. Das Dasein ist als Mitsein dieses Mitemandersein. das Wer des Seins des Miteinanderseins beantwortet sich demnach aus diesem. Das Wer der Alltäglichkeit ist das »Man«.

Es wurde schon angedeutet, im zunächst und zumeist des alltäglichen Besorgens ist das jeweilige Dasein immer das, was es betreibt. Man selbst ist, was man Macht. Die alltägliche Daseinsauslegung nimmt aus dem je Besorgten, den Horizont der Auslegung und Benennung. Man ist Schuster, Schneider, Lehrer, Bankier, Hierbei ist das Dasein etwas, was auch Andere sein können und sind. Nicht nur sofern das Besorgte im Charakter der Verwendbarkeit und Beiträglichkeit für Andere steht, sind die Anderen umweltlich mit da, ist ihrem Mitdasein (337) Rechnung getragen, sondern auch sofern Andere dasselbe Besorgen. In beiden Hinsichten auf die Anderen ist das Mitsein mit ihnen in einem Verhältnis zu ihnen, d. h. mit Rücksicht auf die Anderen und auf das, was die Anderen betreiben, ist das eigenes Besorgen mehr oder minder erfolgreich oder nützlich, in Bezug auf die, die Gleiches besorgen, mehr oder minder hervorragend, zurückbleibend, geschätzt oder dergleichen angesehen. Die Anderen sind im Besorgen dessen, was man selbst mit, für und gegen sie besorgt, nicht einfach nur Vorhanden, sondern das Besorgen lebt ständig als Besorgen in der Sorge um einen Unterschied gegen sie, wenn auch nur, um den Unterschied auszugleichen, sei es, daß das eigene Dasein zurückbleibend gegenüber den Ändern gleichsam aufholen will, sei es, daß es im Vorrang über sie darauf aus ist, die Ändern niederzuhalten. Diese eigentümliche Seinsstruktur, die das Mitsein mit den Anderen in der alltäglichen Weise des Besorgens durchherrscht, bezeichnen wir als das Phänomen der Abständigkeit – die Sorge des Daseins um Abstand – gleichgültig wie weit sie gewußt ist oder nicht. Im Gegenteil, gerade wenn das alltägliche Besorgen nicht darum weiß, ist vielleicht gerade diese Seinsart mit den Anderen viel hartnäckiger und ursprünglicher da. es gibt z. B. Menschen, die überhaupt nur aus Ehrgeiz das machen, was sie machen, ohne jedes Verständnis zu dem, was sie betreiben. Alle diese Bestimmungen Haben natürlich Hier keine moralische Bewertung oder dergleidien, sondern charakterisieren gleichsam nur Bewegungen im rohen Sinne, die das Dasein in seiner Alltäglichikeit macht.

Das eigene Besorgen – das Dasein als Mitsein – hat die Anderen in dieser Art in seine Sorge gestellt, angemessener formuliert: das Dasein als Mitsein wird von dem Mitdasein der Anderen und der von ihm so und so besorgten Welt gelebt. Gerade im eigensten alltäglichen Betreiben ist das Dasein als Mitsein mit den Anderen nicht es selbst, sondern die Anderen sind es, die das eigene Dasein Leben. Diese Anderen (338) brauchen dabei nicht bestimmte Andere zu sein. Jeder Andere kann diesen Anderen vertreten. Der jeweilige Wer als dieser ist gerade gleichgültig, wichtig sind nur die Anderen, zu denen das eigene Dasein selbst gehört. Diese Anderen, zu denen man selbst gehört, und die man im Miteinandersein ist, ist gleichsam das »Subjekt«, das, was ständig da ist, das jedes alltägliche Besorgen betreibt.

Sofern nun das Dasein im Besorgen seiner Welt Mitsein ist, und als dieses Mitsein mit den Anderen in der Welt aufgeht, ist diese gemeinsame Umwelt zugleich die, die jeder in die Sorge gestellt hat als öffentliche Umwelt, von der man Gebrauch macht, der man Rechnung trägt, in der man sich so und so bewegt. Hier bewegen wir uns in Seinsweisen mit Anderen, die jeder Andere genauso wie Ich ist, wo überhaupt jeder Unterschied im Sinne der besonderen Beschäftigung und des Berufes fällt. Dieses Miteinandersein löst das eigene Dasein völlig in die Seinsart der Anderen auf; es läßt sich mitnehmen von den Anderen, so zwar, daß die Anderen in ihrer Unterschiedlichkeit noch mehr verschwinden. Im Umkreis seiner Serasmöglichkeiten ist jeder völlig der Andere. Hier hat das eigentümliche »Subjekt« der Alltäglichkeit – das Man – erst seine volle Herrschaft. Das öffentliche Miteinandersein wird völlig gelebt aus diesem Man. Man genießt und vergnügt sich, wie man genießt, und wir lesen und urteilen über die Literatur, wie man urteilt, wir Hören Musik, wie man Musik hört, wir Sprechen über etwas, wie man spricht.
