Aristóteles caracteriza de maneira totalmente genérica as duas possibilidades fundamentais da alma (ψυχή; [[f>p:psiche|psiche]]) como κρίνειν (julgar) e κινεῖν (mobilizar). A αἴσθησις ([[f>a:aisthesis|aisthesis]]; percepção sensível) do animal já possui o caráter da κρίσις; mesmo na αἴσθησις, no perceber natural, algo é destacado de algo. A segunda determinação é ο κινεῖν, o “procurar saber”. A isso corresponde a determinação mais elevada do ser do homem; a πρᾶξις (ação), ο κινεῖν (mobilizar) no sentido do κρίνειν (julgar), do diferenciar discursivo. A ζωή (vida) do homem é πρακτική μετά λόγου (ação por meio do discurso). Ela é caracterizada pela πρᾶξις καί (40) ἀλήθεια (pela ação e pelo desvelamento) (cf. Ética a Nicômaco VI, 2; 1139a 18), por meio da πρᾶξις (ação), do agir, e do ἀλήθεια (desvelamento), do estar desencoberto do próprio ser-aí tanto quanto do ente mesmo ao qual o agir se liga. Essas duas determinações fundamentais só podem ser formuladas — com relação à sua visibilidade e às suas possibilidades — como: αἴσθησις (percepção sensível), νοῦς (pensamento), όρεξις (desejo). Assim, Aristóteles nos diz: as κυρία, as possibilidades dominantes de cada comportamento humano, são: αἴσθησις (percepção sensível), νοῦς (pensamento), όρεξις (desejo), τρία δ’ έστὶν ἕν τῇ ψυχῇ τὰ κύρια πράξεως καὶ ἀληθείας, αἴσθησις (percepção sensível), νοῦς (pensamento), όρεξις (desejo) (Há três coisas na alma de que a ação e o conhecimento da verdade dependem: sentido, entendimento e desejo — a17ss.). For ἀληθεύειν is indeed Not the only determination of the ψυχή. It is merely a particular possibility (though, to be sure, a constitutive one) of a being which possesses the character of life (ψυχή): namely of that being which is distinguished by the fact that it speaks. Aristotle characterizes quite generally the two basic possibilities of the soul (ψυχή) as κρίνειν and κινεῖν. The αἴσθησις of the animal already has the character of κρίσις; even in αἴσθησις, in the natural act of perceiving, something is set off against something else. The second determination is κινεῖν, “to bestir oneself.” To this corresponds the higher determination of the Being of Man: πρᾶξις, κινεῖν in the sense of κρίνειν, in the sense of distinguishing things in speech. The ζωή of man is πρακτική μετά λόγου. It is characterized by πρᾶξις και ἀλήθεια (cf. Nic. Eth. VI, 2, 1139a18), i.e., by πρᾶξις, acting, and by ἀλήθεια, the uncoveredness of Dasein itself as well as of the beings to which Dasein relates in its actions. Both these basic determinations —  with regard to the possible ways they may manifest themselves — can be termed: αἴσθησις, νοῦς, ὂρεξις. Thus Aristotle says: the κύρια, the dominant possibilities of every human comportment, are: αἴσθησις, νοῦς, ὂρεξις. τρία δ’ έστὶν ἕν τῇ ψυχῇ τὰ κύρια πράξεως καὶ ἀληθείας, αἴσθησις νοῦς ὂρεξις (a17ff.).
