A comunidade só se torna possível sobre a base do um-com-o-outro e não o contrário. Ou seja: não é a comunidade de “eus” o que primeiro constitui o um-com-o-outro. Entretanto, falar em “constituição” do um-com-o-outro é algo ambíguo, uma vez que o próprio conceito de constituição facilmente se torna ambíguo: a) se esse conceito quer dizer, como no caso do neokantismo, construção no sentido de deixar-surgir a partir de elementos simples, certamente não psicológicos, então esse conceito não tem aqui o mínimo sentido; b) contudo, se o conceito de constituição designa a comprovação da estrutura essencial em si sempre integral e não fragmentada, então ele é um conceito justificado em nosso contexto, que, com certeza, precisa ser fundamentado em termos metodológicos. O um-com-o-outro não pode ser deduzido como algo elementar, mas precisa ser, sem dúvida alguma, aclarado em vista dos elementos essenciais que lhe são pertinentes e são todos co-originários. No interior dessa consistência essencial que pertence a todo ser-aí singular não sobra nenhum lugar para a empatia. Pois, se essa expressão ainda possuir algum sentido, então ela só o terá sob a pressuposição de que precisamente o “eu” pode estar de início em sua esfera “egóica” e passar a partir daí para o interior dos outros e de sua esfera. O “eu” nem começa saindo de si (saindo de sua janela), porque já está fora, nem irrompe em meio aos outros, porque já está fora com os outros. Como se mostrará, ele é justamente aí em um sentido autêntico.

Portanto, o um-com-o-outro não deve ser explicado por meio da relação eu-tu e a partir dela. Ao contrário, é essa relação eu-tu que antes pressupõe para a sua possibilidade interna o fato de o ser-aí — tanto o ser-aí que se mostra como eu, quanto o que se mostra como tu — já ser sempre a cada vez determinado como ser-um-com-o-outro; sim, mais ainda: mesmo a auto-apreensão de um eu e o conceito de egocidade só surgem com base no um-com-o-outro, mas não como relação eu-tu.

(155) Assim como é um erro fazer com que o um-com-o-outro aflore apenas de um eu parcial, é também um erro acreditar que a relação eu-tu seja a base a partir da qual o ser-aí como tal deva ser determinado. Mas se, em vez de um ponto de partida egoísta e solipsista, optamos por uma posição altruísta — então o erro é, nesse caso, apenas duplicado e passamos a dispor de um solipsismo num grupo binário. Igualmente errôneo é considerar o um-com-o-outro como princípio único.

On the grounds of the with-one-another, community becomes possible, but the with-one-another is not first constituted by a community of Is. “Constitution” of the with-one-another is ambiguous, as the concept of constitution readily becomes: (a) the concept means, as in Neo-Kantianism, construction in the sense of letting something arise out of simple, though indeed not psychological, elements; then, here at least, it becomes nonsensical; (b) the concept means the demonstration of an essential construction that is in itself always already whole and indivisible; then, it is legitimate, yet certainly must be grounded in its methodological character. The with-one-another as something elementary is not to be derived but must presumably be elucidated with respect to the constituents belonging to its essence, which are all equiprimordial. Within this constitution belonging to the essence of each individual Dasein, there is no place for “empathy.” For if this word is meant to have any meaning left at all, then this can be only on the grounds of the presupposition that the “I” can indeed initially be within its own ego-sphere and must from there then enter into the other and its sphere. Because it is already outside, the “I” neither first breaks out of itself (out of its window) nor breaks into the other, because it already encounters itself outside together with this other and does so there precisely in a genuine sense, as can be shown.

The with-one-another cannot, therefore, be explained via the I-You relation or in terms of it but rather the reverse: This I-You relation presupposes for its inner possibility that Dasein already in each case—both the one that functions as the I and the one that functions as the You—is determined as being with one another, indeed even more: the very self-apprehension of an I and the concept of I-ness first arise on the grounds of the with-one-another, but not as an I-You relation.

It is equally erroneous to let the with-one-another first arise from a truncated I as it is to claim that the I-You relation is the basis, so as to determine Dasein as such starting from there; instead of an egoistic, solipsistic approach, an altruism—this only doubles the error, and there is a solipsism of two. It is likewise erroneous to regard the with-one-another as sole principle.

Auf dem Grunde des Miteinander wird Gemeinschaft möglich, aber nicht konstituiert erst eine Gemeinschaft von Ichen das Miteinander. »Konstitution« des Miteinander ist zweideutig, wie der Begriff der Konstitution es leicht wird; a) besagt er, wie im Neukantianismus, Aufbau im Sinne des Entstehenlassens aus einfachen, freilich nicht psychologischen Elementen; dann wird er hier zum mindesten sinnlos; b) besagt er aber Nachweis des in sich immer schon ganzen und unzerteilbaren Wesensbaues; dann ist er berechtigt, aber freilich im methodischen Charakter zu begründen. Das Miteinander ist nicht als etwas Elementares herzuleiten, wohl aber muß es hinsichtlich der ihm zugehörigen Wesensbestände, die alle gleichursprünglich sind, aufgehellt werden. Innerhalb dieses Wesensbestandes, der zu jedem einzelnen Dasein gehört, bleibt für »Einfühlung« kein Platz. Denn wenn dieses Wort überhaupt noch einen Sinn haben soll,1 dann nur auf Grund der Voraussetzung, daß eben das »Ich« zunächst in seiner Ichsphäre sein kann und dann von da in den anderen und dessen Sphäre hinein muß. Das »Ich« bricht weder erst aus sich heraus (aus dem Fenster), weil es schon draußen ist, noch bricht es in den anderen hinein, weil es sich mit diesem schon draußen trifft und da gerade, wie sich zeigen läßt, in einem echten Sinne.

Das Miteinander ist also nicht durch die Ich-Du-Beziehung und aus ihr zu erklären, sondern umgekehrt: Diese Ich-Du-Beziehung setzt für ihre innere Möglichkeit voraus, daß je schon (146) das Dasein, sowohl das als Ich fungierende als auch das Du, als Miteinandersein bestimmt ist, ja noch mehr: Sogar die Selbsterfassung eines Ich und der Begriff von Ichheit erwächst erst auf dem Grunde des Miteinander, aber nicht als Ich-Du-Beziehung.

Es ist gleich irrig, das Miteinander erst von einem Ichrumpf aus entstehen zu lassen, wie zu meinen, die Ich-Du-Beziehung sei die Basis, um von ihr aus das Dasein als solches zu bestimmen; statt des egoistischen solipsistischen Ansatzes ein Altruismus — so wird der Fehler nur verdoppelt, und es gibt einen Solipsismus zu zweien. Ebenso irrig ist es, das Miteinander als alleiniges Prinzip anzusehen.
