+¿Qué acontece aquí por el hecho de que el árbol se nos presenta y nosotros nos ponemos ante él? ¿Dónde tiene lugar este presentar cuando estamos frente a un árbol en flor, cuando estamos ante él? ¿En nuestra cabeza? Sin duda; algo sucederá en nuestro cerebro cuando estamos en una pradera y tenemos ante nosotros un árbol floreciente en su resplandor y fragancia, cuando lo percibimos. Hoy, a través de aparatos apropiados de transformación e intensificación, pueden incluso hacerse perceptibles acústicamente los procesos en la cabeza como corrientes cerebrales, y su transcurso puede diseñarse en curvas. ¡Cierto, eso es posible! ¡Qué no puede el hombre actual! Incluso le es posible ayudar en ciertos trechos. Y ayuda en todas partes con la mejor intención. ¡Qué no se puede! Seguramente nadie de nosotros sospecha lo que va a (35) poder hacer científicamente el hombre en los próximos tiempos. Pero, limitándonos a nuestro caso, ¿dónde se queda el árbol floreciente para las corrientes del cerebro registrables científicamente? ¿Dónde queda la pradera? ¿Dónde queda el hombre? No preguntamos dónde queda el cerebro, sino el hombre, el que quizá mañana se nos muera y hasta ese momento nos salía al encuentro. ¿Dónde queda el representar en el que el árbol se presenta y el hombre se pone como el que está frente al árbol? +Qu’advient-il ici, que l’arbre se présente à nous et que nous nous mettons en face de lui ? Où « joue » cette présentation, lorsque nous nous tenons en face d’un arbre en fleur, devant lui ? Est-ce dans notre tête ? Soit. Il se déroule maintes choses dans notre cerveau lorsque nous sommes dans une prairie et que nous avons un arbre en fleur qui se tient devant nous dans son éclat et son parfum — que nous le percevons. On peut même Aujourd’hui rendre saisissables à l’oreille les processus qui jouent dans la tête comme courants cérébraux, (44) par des méthodes et des appareils appropriés de transformation et d’amplification, et retracer leur développement par des courbes. On le peut. Soit ! Qu’est-ce que l’homme aujourd’hui ne peut pas ? Il peut même, avec ce pouvoir, rendre sporadiquement service. Et il rend service partout avec les meilleures intentions. On peut... Personne d’entre nous ne pressent encore sans doute ce dont l’homme dans un avenir prochain sera capable scientifiquement. Mais qu’est-ce que vous faites, dans vos circuits cérébraux enregistrables, de l’arbre en fleur ? Qu’est-ce que vous faites de la prairie ? Qu’est-ce que vous faites de l’homme ? Non pas du cerveau, mais de l’homme, que demain peut-être nous aurons perdu et qui depuis l’origine était en route vers nous ? Qu’est-ce que vous faites de la présentation où l’arbre se présente et l’homme se met dans le face-à-face avec l’arbre ? (p. 43-44)

+What happens here, that the tree stands there to face us, and we come to Stand face-to-face with the tree? Where does this presentation take place, when we stand face-to-face before a tree in bloom? Does it by any chance take place in our heads? Of course; many things may take place in our brain when we stand on a meadow and have standing before us a blossoming tree in all its radiance and fragrance —when we perceive it. In fact, we even have transforming and amplifying apparatus that can show the processes in our heads as brain currents, render them audible, and retrace their course in curves. We can—of course! Is there anything modern Man can Not do? He even can be helpful now and then, with what he can do. And he is helping everywhere with the best intentions. Man can—probably none of us have as yet the least premonition of what man will soon be able to do scientifically. But—to stay with our example—while science records the brain currents, what becomes of the tree in bloom? What becomes of the meadow? What becomes of the man—not of the brain but of the man, who may die under our hands tomorrow and be lost to us, and who at one time came to our encounter? What becomes of the face-to-face, the meeting, the seeing, the forming of the idea, in which the tree presents itself and man comes to stand face-to-face with the tree? (p. 42)

+Was ereignet sich Hier, daß der Baum sich uns vorstellt und Wir uns dem Baum gegenüberstellen? Wo spielt dieses vorstellen, wenn wir einem blühenden Baum gegenüber, vor ihm stehen? Etwa in unserem Kopf? Gewiß; in unserem Gehirn mag mancherlei ablaufen, wenn wir auf einer Wiese stehen und einen (45) blühenden Baum in seinem leuchten und Duften vor uns stehen Haben, ihn Wahrnehmen. Man kann heute sogar die Vorgänge im Kopf als Gehirnströme durch geeignete Apparaturen der Umformung und Verstärkung akustisch vernehmbar machen und ihren Verlauf in Kurven nachzeichnen. Man kann — gewiß! Was kann der heutige Mensch Nicht! Er kann sogar mit diesem können streckenweise helfen. Und er hilft überall in der besten Absicht. Man kann — vermutlich ahnt noch Niemand von uns, was der Mensch demnächst wissenschaftlich alles kann. Aber wo bleibt, um uns auf unseren Fall zu beschränken, wo bleibt bei den wissenschaftlich registrierbaren Gehirnströmen der blühende Baum? Wo bleibt die Wiese? Wo bleibt der Mensch? Nicht das Gehirn, sondern der Mensch, der uns morgen vielleicht wegstirbt und ehedem auf uns zukam? Wo bleibt das Vorstellen, worin der Baum sich vorstellt und der Mensch sich ins Gegenüber  zum Baum stellt? (p. 44-45)
