+Citer de nouveau Aujourd’hui cette phrase d’Aristote ne sert de rien, si l’on ne voit pas du même coup qu’elle exige une marche incessante sur le chemin de ce qui mérite question. Tenir bon dans (197) un tel questionnement, voilà ce qui sépare par un abîme le penseur qu’est Aristote de tout Aristotélisme, lequel, comme tous les épigones, dénature ce qui est digne de question pour en faire une réponse acquise. Ou bien, si cette dénaturation n’est pas possible, ce qui est digne de question se transforme en un simple « douteux ». Celui-ci se dénonce alors comme l’incertain, le fragile, le brisable, qui menace de se disloquer. Aussi a-t-il besoin d’une assurance qui combine tout dans une sécurité qu’on puisse envelopper du regard. Cette combinaison rassurante, c’est le Système. Le mode de représentation systématique et formateur de système, qui procède par concepts, inaugure sa domination. (p. 196-197)

+At the end of my book on Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics (1929), I call attention to a long-forgotten statement from Aristotle’s treatises on Metaphysics, which runs:
+“Καί δή καί τό πάλαι τε καί νυν καί άεί ζητούμενον καί άεί άπορούμενον τί τό όν...”
+“And so it remains something to be looked for, from of old and now and forever, and thus something that offers no way out: what is being . . . ?”
+It profits nothing, of course, that we now quote this statement of Aristotle again, if we neglect to hear that it relentlessly insists on our taking the road into what is problematical. His persistence in that questioning attitude separates the thinker Aristotle by an abyss from all that Aristotelianism which, in the manner of all followers, falsifies what is problematical and so produces a clear-cut counterfeit answer. And where no counterfeit answer is produced, what is problematical becomes merely questionable. The questionable then appears as something uncertain, weak, and fragile, something that is threatening to fall apart. We now need some assurance that will put everything together again in comprehensible security. This reassuring (213) combination is the System, σύστημα. The systematic and systembuilding way of forming ideas through concepts takes control. (p. 212-213)

+Am Schluß des Buches über »Kant und das Problem der Metaphysik« (1929) wird auf einen längst vergessenen Satz aus den Abhandlungen des Aristoteles zur »Metaphysik« (ZI, 1028b 2 sqq.) hingewiesen. Er lautet:

+Es trägt allerdings Nichts aus, wenn Man jetzt diesen Satz des Aristoteles wieder zitiert und dabei überhört, daß er unablässig den Gang auf den Weg in die Fragwürdigkeit verlangt. Das aushalten in solchem Fragen trennt diesen Denker Aristoteles durch einen Abgrund von Allem Aristotelismus, der Wie jede Anhängerschaft das Fragwürdige in eine entschiedene Antwort umfälscht. (216) Wo solches aber Nicht geschieht, wird das Fragwürdige zum bloß Fraglichen. Dies zeigt sich dann als das Unsichere, Gebrechliche und Zerbrechliche, das auseinanderzufallen droht. Darum bedarf es der Sicherung, die alles in eine übersehbare Sicherheit zusammenstellt. Diese sichernde Zusammenstellung, σύστημα, ist das System. Das systematische und systembildende vorstellen durch Begriffe kommt zur Herrschaft. (p. 215-216)
